The Lancaster school board will resume its chairman’s night sessions at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, at Lancaster Primary School, 36 Primary School Circle, Lancaster.
At the October 9 board meeting, it was determined the next three sessions will take place at the county schools so citizens can participate in a walk-through and see the conditions of the schools.
Related to new facilities, chairman and District 3 board member Audrey Thomasson suggested the school system form a coalition of teachers to support the building of new schools, similar to Northumberland’s initiative.
“They [Northumberland] ran into a lot of obstruction when trying to build new schools as well, to get the community behind the new schools, and what they did is they got the teachers to become involved. There was a coalition of teachers that got involved in moving forward,” she said. “I am hoping we can do that with our teachers…the more voices that we can have, the better.”
The board also was notified by VMDO Architects in Charlottesville that more funds would be needed to begin the next phase in the new school facilities process…
