School board hires architect for new schools

KILMARNOCK—During a special called meeting July 28, the Lancaster County School Board voted 4-1 to hire VMDO Architects of Charlottesville to carry out the design phase for new county schools.

District 2 member Kenya Moody, District 3 member and vice chairman Audrey Thomasson, District 4 member Joan Gravatt and District 5 member and board chairman Robert Westbrook voted in favor of the motion. District 1 member Robert Smart voted against it.

“We look forward to working with them,” said Westbrook.

A request for proposal for architectural and engineering services was advertised and seven architectural firms responded.
