SEM speaker series to explore Weems wharf and Victorian homesite

The Steamboat Era Museum (SEM), as part of its Second Saturday Speaker Series, will present Margery Woodson Nea and Chip Woodson. They will speak about “The Weems Wharf and Old Home.”

The presentation will be held at 2 p.m. April 12 at their grandfather’s renovated Victorian home in Weems, reported museum manager Candee Pevahouse.

In 1888, their grandfather, James Oscar Dameron, and his brother, Walton, left their home in Kinsale in search of a suitable place to take advantage of the rise in steamboat commerce on the Chesapeake Bay. After sailing the Potomac River, around the Chesapeake Bay and into the Rappahannock, they found a general store and wharf at the mouth of Carter Creek. The brothers bought the store, obtained….
