SEM speaker series to open Saturday with tall ship lecture

Steamboat Era MuseumThe Steamboat Era Museum (SEM), 156 King Carter Drive, Irvington, as part of the 2025 annual Second Saturday Speaker Series, will welcome Greg Kirkbride for his presentation, “America’s Tall Ship – the Coast Guard Barque EAGLE” at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11.

Commander Kirkbride’s presentation will delve into the history, characteristics and on-board operations, with a focus on the Operation Sail 1972 tall ships race in Europe, of the Coast Guard’s 88-year-old sail training vessel, the EAGLE, reported museum manager Candee Pevahouse.

Kirkbride is a 1974 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., where he sailed on three cadet training cruises aboard the EAGLE. He served 23 years on active duty…..
