WHITE STONE—Traffic was closed for an hour on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge Monday morning due to a police investigation.
Traffic in both lanes was halted following a 9:15 a.m. call to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department of a person on the bridge in distress, according to Sheriff Patrick McCranie. A motorist reported a person on the bridge with a gun.
Traffic was stopped on the bridge at 10:15 a.m. while Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies, assisted by the Virginia State Police and the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department, investigated.
“The person fell from the bridge,” reported Sheriff McCranie.
Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department assisted Lancaster deputies in recovery of the body from the Rappahannock River.
The person’s name was not being released at press time by Sheriff McCranie, who said the incident is still under investigation.
