Sheriff’s Report 03-18-21

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against  three individuals.

Felony

Rodney Eli Wiggins Jr., 22, of Lancaster was charged March 11 with attempting to willfully and with premeditation murder a person in the first degree, two counts of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle so as to create the risk of injury or death to another person, maliciously shooting a firearm at an occupied dwelling whereby the life or lives of such persons may have been put in peril and using a firearm while committing or attempting to commit murder.

Misdemeanors

A Weems man, 25, was charged March 8 with violating community-based probation on a misdemeanor offense.

A Weems woman, 26, was charged March 11 with use of a phone without intention to communicate, make the phone of another ring for the purpose to annoy a person.

Activity report

March 8: Staff responded to Mary Ball and Field Trial roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 100 block of Hawthorne Avenue to assist the Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with a trespasser, to the 400 block of North Main Street for elder abuse, to the 2500 block of Black Stump Road for a sudden death, to Old Fairgrounds Way and North Main Street for a two-vehicle traffic crash, and to the 600 block of Rappahannock Drive for a trespasser.

March 9: Staff responded to the 500 block of Rappahannock Drive for a possible prowler, to a walk-in report of a possible scam, to Windmill Point Road for two motorcycles driving recklessly, and to the 100 block of Irvington Road to assist KPD with a suspicious person.

March 10: Staff responded to the 100 block of Harris Road for a possible assault, to the 900 block of Beach Road for a burglary, to the 800 block of Rappahannock Drive for an intoxicated driver, and to the 200 block of Benson Road to assist Social Services with an alleged child sexual assault.

March 11: Staff responded to the 200 block of Richtown Road for shooting into an occupied dwelling, River and Thomas Landing roads for vandalism of a business from gunshots, to the 200 block of Wishing Well Lane to check the welfare of a resident, responded to the 100 block of Pond Park Road for shooting into an occupied dwelling, and to a walk-in report of a missing relative.

March 12: Staff responded to the 1600 block of Little Bay Road for repeated gunshots in the area, to a walk-in report of a child custody issue, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, and to the 1300 block of Buzzard Neck Road for theft of a toolbox.

March 13: Staff responded to the 1000 block of Goodluck Road for a child custody issue.

March 14: Staff responded to the 400 block of Carlson Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash with serious injuries, and to the 100 block of North Main Street for a suspicious person.

Staff also conducted 22 traffic stops, issued 15 summonses, assisted a motorist, recorded five deer strike accidents, handled six calls for traffic control, investigated two building alarms, processed a mental health order, logged an inmate transport, received 24 E911 hang-up calls, and fielded three calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

The Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department responded to separate traffic crashes on Old Fairgrounds Way, James B. Jones Memorial Highway and Carlson Road.

The Upper Lancaster VFD assisted Richmond County with a brush fire at Old Treasure Road and Historyland Highway and a structure fire on Hunters Trail; and responded to an unattended fire on White Chapel Road, a fuel spill on Mary Ball Road and a brush/field fire on Courthouse Road.

The Kilmarnock, Upper Lancaster and White Stone VFDs responded to a large field fire on Crawfords Corner Road.
