Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against five individuals.
Felony
Matthew Scott Chapman, 38, of White Stone was charged March 18 with murder in the first degree, maliciously shooting with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. On March 19, he also was charged with assault and battery of a family member.
Misdemeanors
A Richmond man, 58, was charged March 17 with three counts of probation violation, one on a felony offense and two on misdemeanor offenses.
A Lancaster man, 53, was charged March 17 with contempt of court, failure to appear.
A Lancaster man, 22, was charged March 18 with probation violation on a misdemeanor offense.
A White Stone man, 73, was charged March 22 with assault and battery.

March 16: Staff responded to the 500 block of Gaskins Road for a drive-by shooting into a residence, to the 500 block of Southport Lane for a domestic disturbance, to the 500 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for juvenile behavior issues, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for a disabled vehicle in the roadway, to the 400 block of Wilson Lane for the report of trespassers, to the intersection of River and Mary Ball roads for an abandoned vehicle, and to the 600 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for a burglary and vandalism.
March 17: Staff responded to the 1300 block of Weems Road for gunshots near a residence, to the 8400 block of Mary Ball Road for the possible vandalism of a vehicle, to the 8200 block of Mary Ball Road for a reckless driver, to the 100 block of Turner Lane for a stolen lawn mower, to the 6700 block of Mary Ball Road for a reckless driver on a motorcycle, and to Black Stump Road for motorcycles racing on the highway.
March 18: Staff responded to Carters Cove for an unlicensed motorcycle on the highway, to Mosquito Beach Lane for a single-vehicle traffic crash and power lines down, to the 100 block of Seahaven Drive for a suspicious person at an unoccupied residence, to the 100 block of Camp Drive for a stolen canoe, to the 200 block of Beach Road for a malicious assault with a firearm, and to the 400 block of Wilson Lane for a suspicious vehicle.
March 19: Staff responded to the 11500 block of Mary Ball Road for a disabled truck causing a traffic hazard, and to the 400 block of Wilson Lane for a verbal disagreement.
March 20: Staff responded to the 1300 block of Bewdley Road for a stolen/missing kayak, to the Norris Bridge for a reckless driver, to the 100 block of Beach Road for a trespasser on a four-wheeler, and to the 4100 block of Morattico Road for numerous gunshots near a residence.
March 21: Staff responded to the 3100 block of Merry Point Road for several gunshots in the area.
March 22: Staff responded to the 100 block of Corner Oak Circle for a trespasser causing a disturbance, to the 300 block of Windfall Lane for vandalism, to the 100 block of Elm Street for a fight in progress involving five males, to the 100 block of Hayden Road for juvenile behavior issues, to the Norris Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to Devil’s Bottom Road for pursuit by law enforcement of a vehicle and then on foot.
Staff also conducted 14 traffic stops, issued five summonses, assisted four motorists, recorded a deer-strike accident, investigated seven building alarms, received 14 E911 hang-up calls, and handled two calls for animal control service.
Fire calls
The Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide alarm on Mary Ball Road.
The White Stone VFD responded to a brush fire on Chesapeake Drive, a traffic crash on Mosquito Beach Lane and set up a landing zone for emergency medical services on Beach Road.
The Kilmarnock VFD responded to an electrical fire on Pine Drive.
The White Stone, Kilmarnock and Upper Lancaster VFDS responded to a structure fire on Woods Drive.
EMS calls
For March 15-21, the Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad, Upper Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad and Lancaster County Emergency Services responded to 27 calls, including 18 medical emergencies, four injuries, a traffic accident, two fire calls and two other calls.
