Sheriffs’ Report  06-08-23

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against three individuals.

Felonies

Coty James Rasmussen, 32, of Weems was charged June 3 with two counts of while being a parent, guardian, or a person responsible for the care of a child under the age of 18, commit a willful act or omission in the care of such child so gross and wanton as to show reckless disregard for human life; drive a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, with a BAC of at least 0.15 but not more than 0.20 this being a second offense within five years; and drive a motor vehicle on the highway in a business or residential district at a speed of 41 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone.

Montez Devon Thompson, 30, of Hague was charged June 6 with knowingly and intentionally possessing or transporting a firearm after having been convicted of a felony within the prior 10 years; assault and battery of a family or household member; and stealing an iPhone 12 ProMax cell phone valued at less than $1,000.

Misdemeanor

A Weems man, 55, was charged June 1 with appearing in public in an intoxicated condition.

Activity Report

May 29: Staff responded to the 400 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for a domestic disturbance, to the 100 block of Reynolds Farm Road for shooting in the area, and to the 10700 block of Courthouse Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash with injuries. 

May 30: Staff responded to the 200 block of Wiggins Avenue for a verbal disagreement, to the 1600 block of Harris Road for a wanted person, to the 100 block of Skye Drive for a burglary, to Buzzards Neck and Leather Neck roads for a suspicious vehicle without state tags, to the 500 block of Gaskins Road for a trespasser, and to the 6000 block of Mary Ball Road for a suspicious vehicle.

May 31: Staff responded to the 100 block of Shelton Drive for suspicious activity, to Devils Bottom Road and Daniel Lane for a tree down in the roadway, to the 3000 block of White Chapel Road for a possible suicidal person, to Mary Ball Road in Lancaster for a reckless driver, to the 1600 block of Old Salem Road for vandalism of property, to the 400 block of North Main Street to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 1400 block of Davis Mill Road for a possible suicidal person, to the 200 block of Greenwood Court for a verbal dispute, and to the 100 block of East Highview Drive for a person with an altered mental status. 

June 1: Staff responded to the 500 block of North Main Street to assist KPD with threats made to harm another, to the 200 block of Merry Point Road for suspicious activity, to the 500 block of Gaskins Road for a trespasser, to the 100 block of South Main Street to assist KPD with a disorderly person, to the 16800 block of Mary Ball Road for a two-vehicle traffic crash with injuries, to the 1500 block of Goodluck Road for a check forgery and grand larceny, and to River Road and BertrandPlace for an abandoned vehicle and after searching the area resulted in a suicide.

June 2: Staff responded to the 100 block of York Road for a sudden death, to the 400 block of North Main Street to assist KPD with a fight in progress, and to the 100 block of Meadowlark Lane for a domestic disturbance involving alcohol.

June 3: Staff responded to the 200 block of Russell Lane to check the welfare of a resident, to Rivers Landing Terrace and Old Ferry Roadfor an abandoned vehicle, to the 300 block of Methodist Church Road for a larceny, to Cherry Hill Road for gunshots and a stolen firearm, to the 100 block of Little Bay Road for threats made to harm another, to the 100 block of Wishing Well Lane for vandalism of an outbuilding, to the 1100 block of Devils Bottom Road for a domestic assault, to the 100 block of Whays Creek Cove Lane to assist Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office with a domestic disturbance with a weapon involved, and to Turkey Run Lane and River Road for a person with an altered mental status.

June 4: Staff responded to the 3100 block of Lara Road for a verbal dispute concerning the ownership of a vehicle, to a walk-in report of juvenile behavior issues that occurred at 12200 block of Mary Ball Road, and to the 200 block of Irvington Road for a runaway juvenile.

Staff also conducted 10 traffic stops, issued seven summonses, assisted two motorists, recorded a deer strike accident, handled two calls for traffic control, investigated a building alarm, processed a mental health order, received 42 E911 hang up calls, and fielded four calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the smell of propane on Coxs Farm Road, a traffic crash on North Main Street, an electrical fire on Laurel Point Road and with Upper Lancaster VFD to a brush fire at Belle Isle State Park.

Upper Lancaster VFD also responded to a traffic crash on Courthouse Road, and a fire/commercial alarm on Belle Isle Road.

White Stone VFD responded to a fire/smoke alarm on Lancaster Drive.

Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp this week reported charges against 17 individuals.

Felonies

Wallace Harold Wright, 56, of Chesterfield was charged May 21 with possession of a Schedule I/II drug, false report to a law enforcement officer and threatening an illegal act over the phone. These were Northumberland County warrants served by Chesterfield County Police Department.

Charles Lewis Elmore, 46, of Farnham was charged May 27 on a capias to show cause for failing to appear in the Northumberland County Circuit Court on a felony charge. A second capias to show cause was issued to have his bond revoked for failing to comply with his pre-trial services. He was served by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrick Newell Lewis, 54, of Heathsville was charged May 28 with abduction and assault and battery of a family member. These were Northumberland County warrants, served by LCSO.

Hannibal Tyler-El, 41, of Burgess was charged June 1 with 48 felony warrants for possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Jermaine Maurice Bait, 28, of Heathsville was charged June 1 on a direct indictment issued by a Northumberland County Multi-Jurisdictional Grand Jury for rape by force/threat and a parent violating a child under the age of 15.

Misdemeanors

A Colonial Beach man, 22, was charged May 4 with driving on a revoked license, alcohol related and speeding.

A Lottsburg man, 66, was charged May 11 with assault and battery of a family member.

A Bumpass man, 38, was charged May 16 with two counts of violating a protective order. These were Northumberland County warrants, served by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

A Callao woman, 20, was charged May 18 with assault and battery of a family member.

A Warsaw man, 21, was charged May 26 with failing to appear in the Northumberland County General District Court on the original charge of DUI, first offense and reckless driving,

A Heathsville man, 49, was charged May 27 with being drunk in public.

A Reedville man, 22, was charged May 29 with assault and battery of a family member.

A Heathsville man, 43, was charged May 31 with criminal trespassing and damaging property.

A Reedville woman, 57, was charged June 1 with assault and battery of a family member.

A Reedville man, 22, was charged June 3 with disorderly conduct.

A Saluda man, 31, was charged June 3 with disorderly conduct.

An Orange man, 44, was charged June 4 with assault and battery of a family member.
