Coffee with a cop

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will host “coffee with a cop” at 9 a.m. Thursday, September 14, at Front Porch Coffeehouse, 139 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Members of the public are urged to meet and chat with law enforcement representatives.

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported misdemeanor charges against two individuals.

A Lancaster man, 29, was charged August 28 with failure to appear in court for arraignment on an obstructing justice charge.

A Lancaster man, 44, was charged September 3 with driving while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.15-0.20.

Activity report

August 28: Staff responded to the 100 block of North Main Street to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with a possible burglary, to Courthouse and White Chapel roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 600 block of Rappahannock Drive for a hit and run property damage on private property, to Mary Ball and Regina roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 300 block of West Bay Drive to check the welfare of a resident, to River and Belmont Creek roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash with injuries, to the 400 block of Twin Branch Road for a verbal dispute involving alcohol, and to the 5200 block of Mary Ball Road for a domestic disturbance.

August 29: Staff responded to the 400 block of Rappahannock Drive for a hit and run property damage crash on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge, to the 200 block of Dawson Lane for a downed tree in the roadway, to Mary Ball and River Roads for a disorderly person, to a walk-in report of threats made to harm another that occurred at the 400 block of Twin Branch Road, to the 200 block of Methodist Church Road for a person with mental issues, to the Norris Bridge for a tree branch in the roadway, and to Mary Ball and Pinckardsville roads to assist Virginia State Police (VSP) with a vehicle and foot pursuit.

August 30: Staff responded to the 100 block of North Main Street for a medical patient who left RGH in need of services, to Regina Road for suspicious activity, to Irvington and Weems roads for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to the Norris Bridge for construction material in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to a walk-in report of trespassing that occurred at the 4400 block of Windmill Point Road, and to the 3200 block of Crawfords Corner Road for a domestic disturbance.

August 31: Staff responded to the 2500 block of Windmill Point Road for a possible burglary in progress, to the 100 block of Abby Way to assist KPD with a suicidal person, to the 3200 block of Crawfords Corner Road for a verbal dispute, to the 100 block of Pinckardsville Road for a stolen license plate, and to the 10100 block of Jessie Dupont Memorial Highway to assist Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office with a male with a handgun threatening to damage a vehicle.

September 1: Staff responded to the 5300 block of Windmill Point Road for vandalism of a vehicle that occurred at Town Centre Park, and to the end of Windmill Point Road for a suspicious vehicle.

September 2: Staff responded to North Main Street for a reckless driver, to the 7300 block of River Road to assist VSP with a foot pursuit, to the 100 block of Kathy Drive for a verbal dispute, to Mary Ball and Devils Bottom roads for an intoxicated driver, to the 300 block of Tammy Drive for a fight in progress involving two juveniles, and to the 100 block of Shalem Place for a landlord/tenant dispute with weapons involved.

September 3: Staff responded to the 100 block of Shalem Place for a domestic disturbance, to the Norris Bridge for a disabled vehicle blocking traffic, and to the 200 block of Burnt Wharf Road for a noise violation from loud music.

Staff also conducted 18 traffic stops, issued 12 summonses, assisted six motorists, handled four calls for traffic control, investigated five building alarms, processed a mental health order, logged two inmate transports, received 16 E911 hang up calls, and fielded five calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

The Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department responded to traffic crashes at Courthouse and White Chapel roads, Mary Ball and Regina roads, and Belmont Creek Road; and fire/smoke alarm calls on Queenstown Road and Hills Lane.

White Stone VFD responded to a tree on a power line on Chases Cove Lane and two fire/smoke alarm calls on Rappahannock Road.

Kilmarnock VFD responded to a vehicle fire on Old Fairgrounds Way and fire/smoke alarm calls on Guarding Point Lane and Abby Lane.
