Sheriffs ‘ Reports 10-13-22

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against two individuals.

Felony

Thomas Eugene Evans, 32, of Lancaster was charged October 4 with possession or use of a sawed-off shotgun; and intentionally removing, defacing, altering, changing, destroying or obliterating the name of the maker, model or serial number or intentionally causing the maker, model or serial number of a firearm to be removed, defaced, altered, changed, destroyed or obliterated.

Misdemeanor

A Weems man, 19, was charged October 7 with assault and battery of a family member.

Activity report

October 3: Staff responded to the 100 block of Reynolds Farm Road to assist emergency medical services (EMS) with a combative patient, to the 11200 block of Jessie duPont Memorial Highway for an abandoned vehicle, to the 200 block of Flats Lane for the brandishing of a firearm and possible suicidal person, and to Old Salem Road for a two-vehicle traffic crash with injuries.

October 4: Staff responded to the 200 block of Flats Lane for possession of a sawed-off shotgun, to Mary Ball and Kamps Mill roads for a suspicious vehicle, to the 7800 block of River Road for a possible burglary, and to the 500 block of North Main Street to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with the unauthorized use of a vehicle.

October 5: Staff responded to the 100 block of Chase Street to assist KPD with suspicious activity, to the 300 block of Johns Neck Road for a landlord/renter civil issue, and to the 600 block of North Main Street to assist Virginia State Police with a driving under the influence-related traffic stop.

October 6: Staff responded to the 100 block of Clover Lane for an individual with an altered mental status, and to the 6000 block of Mary Ball Road for a disabled vehicle in the roadway causing a traffic hazard.

October 7: Staff responded to the 100 block of Harris Road for a missing person with a medical condition, to Devils Bottom Road for a disabled farm truck causing a traffic hazard, to the 6000 block of Mary Ball Road for a verbal disagreement over the purchase of fuel, to the 100 block of William B. Graham Court for a wanted person, to the 400 block of North Main Street for a hit and run on private property, to the 100 block of West Church Street for several juveniles fighting, to the 6000 block of Windmill Point Road for gunshots, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for a disabled vehicle causing a traffic hazard, to the 600 block of Granville Bay Road to assist EMS with entry into a residence for a medical emergency, and to the 500 block of Johns Neck Road for a domestic assault.

October 8: Staff responded to the 10900 block of Jessie duPont Memorial Highway for suspicious activity, to a walk-in report of threats made to harm another, to Goodluck and Mary Ball roads for a person involved in a road rage incident.

October 9: Staff responded to the 100 block of Mount Vernon Lane for stalking, to the 100 block of Cherry Hill Road for a trespasser, to the 11600 block of Courthouse Road to check the welfare of the residents, to the 18800 block of Mary Ball Road for the vandalism of a truck windshield, to the 100 block of Ocran Road for a reckless driver, and to the 100 block of Clifton Lane for gunshots in the area.

Staff also conducted 17 traffic stops, issued 15 summonses, assisted four motorists, recorded a deer strike accident, handled 11 calls for traffic control, investigated two building alarms, logged an inmate transport, received eight E911 hang up calls and fielded four calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

White Stone Volunteer Fire Department responded to separate traffic crashes on Windmill Point Road and Old Salem Road and a fire/smoke alarm on Rapaphannock Landing.

Upper Lancaster VFD responded to a fire/smoke alarm on Catch Penny Lane and with Kilmarnock VFD to a brush fire on Kelley Neck Road.
