Sheriffs’ Reports

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported misdemeanor charges against three individuals.

Louis C. Strange, 80, of Holly Haven Road was charged January 17 with assault and battery of a family member.

Shirley M. Strange, 78, of Holly Haven Road was charged January 17 with assault and battery of a family member.

Elizabeth Lewis (no age reported) of Cow Shed Road was charged January 19 with contempt of court.

Activity report

January 15: Staff responded to Merry Point and Hoecake roads for a traffic crash involving a dump truck, to the 10200 block of Jessie duPont Memorial Highway for an abandoned vehicle, to the 900 block of Weems Road to investigate a burglary and theft of four firearms, including an 870 Remington shotgun, muzzle loader, slug gun and 308 rifle, and to the 2600 block of Morattico Road for a suspicious person, possibly under the influence of drugs.

January 16: Staff responded to Weems Road for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 8800 block of Mary Ball Road for an assault, to the 100 block of School Street for a juvenile behavioral issue, to the 2000 block of Weems Road for an attempted theft of property, to the 8800 block of Mary Ball Road for a domestic disturbance, and to the 100 block of Snug Harbor Drive for the reported threat to commit a sexual assault.

January 17: Staff responded to the 400 block of Lara Road for the report of a possible prowler, to the 100 block of Queenstown Road to investigate the report of a sexual assault, to the 100 block of Holly Haven Road for a domestic assault, and to Christ Church and Gaskins roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash.

January 18: Staff responded to the 11100 block of Mary Ball Road for a distracted or physically impaired driver, and to the 300 block of James Wharf for a fight in progress.

January 19: Staff responded to Merry Point Road for a vehicle fire, and to the 1900 block of Goodluck Road for the reported physical abuse of a child.

January 20: Staff responded to the 6000 block of Windmill Point Road for the reckless use of a firearm, to the 1000 block of River Road for the report of a child bitten by a canine and a disturbance by the parties involved, to the 5200 block of Morattico Road to investigate the theft of two ladders, a long handled paint brush and various tools, to the 7800 block of River Road for a suspicious person causing a traffic hazard, to the 100 block of Irvington Road to assist the Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with the report of a mental patient, and to the 500 block of Southport Lane to assist KPD with a domestic disturbance.

January 21: Staff responded to the area of Rappahannock Drive to check the welfare of a female in a parked vehicle who appeared in need of medical attention.

Staff also conducted 25 traffic stops, issued 11 summonses, assisted five motorists, recorded one deer strike accident, handled two calls for traffic control, investigated eight building alarms, logged six inmate transports, received nine E911 hang-up calls, and fielded one call for animal control service.

Fire calls

The Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department responded to a traffic crash at Merry Point and Devils Bottom roads, to a vehicle fire on Merry Point Road, and two fire/smoke alarm calls, also on Merry Point Road.

The Kilmarnock VFD responded to a traffic crash on Weems Road and a fire/smoke alarm on Irvington Road.

The White Stone VFD responded to the smell of propane on James Wharf Road and to a traffic crash at Christ Church and Gaskins roads.

EMS calls

For the week of January 14 through 20, the Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad, Upper Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad and Lancaster County Emergency Services responded to 36 calls for service including 20 medical emergencies, five injuries, three traffic accidents, four fires and four other calls.

Northumberland County Sheriff James R. “Doc” Lyons this week reported charges against nine individuals.

Felonies

Casey Clarke Northern, 28, of Heathsville was charged January 8 with felony shoplifting after being convicted of the crime two or more times. The incident occurred at the Walmart Store in Essex County. This was an Essex County warrant served by the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Clifton Tomlin, 63, of Burgess was charged January 15 with petit larceny, third plus offense, and a capias to show cause from the Northumberland County Circuit Court for failing to appear on a felony charge. These were Northumberland County warrants served by Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

Misdemeanors

A Kilmarnock man, 27, was charged January 9 with selling/distributing marijuana, less than a ½ ounce.

A Dunnsville man, 37, was charged January 10 with driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, driving without a license and failing to drive on the right side of the road.

A Farnham man, 32, was charged January 14 with obstructing justice and two counts of threatening an illegal act on the phone. These were Northumberland County warrants served by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

A Heathsville man, 21, was charged January 17 with assault. This was a Northumberland County warrant served by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

A Lottsburg woman, 37, was charged January 17 with being drunk in public.

A Heathsville man, 25, was charged January 20 with threatening an illegal/immoral act over the telephone. This was a Richmond County warrant served by the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

A Reedville man, 72, was charged January 21 with driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and failing to drive on the right side of the road.
