Sheriffs’ Reports

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against seven individuals.

Felonies

Joseph S. Callahan, 46, of John Neck Road was charged July 17 with felony grand larceny and breaking the lock on a closed trailer containing work tools and other property.

Miranda D. Gilbert, 23, of North was charged July 17 with the felony of first degree murder.

Misdemeanors

A Peach Tree Lane man, 18, was charged July 16 with engaging in a sex act with a child 15 years of age or older.

A Virginia Road man, 52, was charged July 17 on revocation of pretrial release.

A River Road woman, 27, was charged July 18 with violation of a protective order.

A Williams Mill Lane woman, 48, was charged July 19 with assault and battery of a family member.

A Williams Mill Lane man, 60, was charged July 19 with assault and battery of a family member.

Activity report

July 16: Staff responded to the 300 block of Avonne Street to assist the Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with four or five adults engaged in a verbal dispute, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for debris in the highway causing a traffic hazard, to the 4300 block of Irvington Road for a hit and run property damage traffic crash, to Fleets Bay Road for a trespasser, to the 11000 block of River Road for a domestic disturbance and to assist emergency management services (EMS) with a violent reaction to a prescription medication, and to the 200 block of Newtown Road for a domestic disturbance from a child custody dispute.

July 17: Staff responded to Irvington and Christ Church roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 100 block of Pinckardsville Road for a property dispute, and to the 100 block of Dawson Lane for gunshots fired near a residence.

July 18: Staff responded to the 400 block of East Church Street to assist KPD with a domestic disturbance involving alcohol, to the 100 block of Arrowhead Drive for a domestic disturbance, and to a walk-in report of a violation of a protective order.

July 19: Staff responded to the 100 block of Williams Mill Lane for a domestic assault, to the Norris Bridge for a disabled tractor-trailer blocking the east bound lane, to the 9000 block of Mary Ball Road for a suspicious person parked in a vehicle, and to the 100 block of Williams Mill Lane for violation of a protective order.

July 20: Staff responded to the Norris Bridge for a disabled van blocking the east bound lane of traffic, to the area of Dawson Lane for gunshots, to the 500 block of Lumberlost Road to check the welfare of a person who reportedly had not been heard from for about a week, to the Norris Bridge for a boat in distress, to the 600 block of Rappahannock Drive for loitering and disruptive behavior, to the 100 block of Brent Court for stalking and a child custody issue, to the 100 block of Windmill Point Road for a verbal disagreement, and to the 500 block of Gaskins Road for a vehicle driving recklessly.

July 21: Staff responded to Historyland Highway and Farnham Creek Road to assist the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with the shooting of two individuals and a large rowdy crowd, to the 100 block of Brent Court for threats made to harm another, to the 2800 block of Lara Road for a suspicious person, to the 1800 block of Iberis Road for a downed tree in the highway, and to the 100 block of Alfonso Road for an intoxicated person in the highway.

July 22: Staff responded to Old Orchard Drive and Griffins Landing Road for power lines down causing a traffic hazard, to the 4200 block of Irvington Road for possible gunshots nearby, to the 200 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for a domestic disturbance, to the 500 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for a domestic disturbance, to Courthouse and White Chapel roads to assist the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office with a foot pursuit after being stopped by law enforcement.

Staff also conducted 16 traffic stops, issued 10 summonses, assisted four motorists, recorded two deer strike accidents, handled a call for traffic control, investigated four building alarms, processed a mental health order, logged two inmate transports, received six E911 hang-up calls, and fielded six calls for animal control.

Fire calls

The Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Corrotoman Drive and downed power lines at Old Orchard Drive and Griffins Landing Road.

EMS calls

For the week of July 15-21, the Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad, Upper Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad and Lancaster County Emergency Services responded to 35 calls for service including 18 medical emergencies, five injuries, two traffic accidents, two fire calls and eight other calls.

Northumberland County Sheriff James R. “Doc” Lyons this week reported charges against 10 individuals.

Felonies

Anthony Darnell Gregory, 32, of Colonial Beach was charged July 16 with felony assault and battery, third offense. This was a Westmoreland County warrant served by the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Monta Lavell Turner, 41, of Callao was charged July 17 on a direct indictment from the Northumberland County Multi-jurisdictional Grand Jury with two counts of distribution/sell for profit a Schedule I or II drug, sell/distribute one-half ounce but not more than five pounds of marijuana. He also was charged with possession with intent to sell/distribute one-half ounce but not more than five pounds of marijuana and a misdemeanor sell/distribute one-half ounce or less of marijuana.

Arnell Croxton, 56, of Heathsville was charged July 22 with unauthorized use of a vehicle, habitual offender, second plus offender. He also was charged with fleeing from law enforcement and obstruction of justice. Croxton also was charged with three summonses for obscuring a license plate, failing to give a signal and defective equipment.

Louis Cephas Johnson Jr., 52, of Lancaster was charged July 23 with felony damaging property and conspiracy to damage property. He also was charged with interfering with property rights of another and obstruction of justice.

Misdemeanors

A Burgess woman, 54, was charged July 16 with failing to appear in the Northumberland County General District Court.

A Reedville man, 65, was charged July 17 with assault and battery.

A Callao man, 26, was charged July 18 with a capias/attachment of the body issued from the Northumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court with failing to comply with pre-trial services.

A Kilmarnock man, 18, was charged July 18 with failing to appear in the Northumberland County General District Court.

A Reedville woman, 40, was charged July 19 with trespassing after being forbidden to do so.

A Chester man, 23, was charged July 23 with violating a protective order.
