FREDERICKSBURG—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) began a safety project in the Northern Neck region this week to slightly widen road shoulders on several primary routes to reduce the risk of crashes.
Travelers can expect mobile lane closures and one-way, alternating traffic in the work zones, reported senior communications specialist Darragh Frye. Work hours will vary.
All routes will be complete by late November 2025.
Crews began work Monday, September 15, on nearly a two-mile section of History Land Highway in Richmond County between Creekview Lane and Boswell Road.
Work will be performed at these locations in the following order as scheduled by the contractor, Lee Hy Construction:
• Lancaster County, Mary Ball Road between Courthouse Road and Hickory Hill Lane.
• Westmoreland County, Kings Highway, between the King George county line and Oak Grove Road; and Cople Highway between Kings Highway and the Nomini Bridge.
