Slaw adds player of the year to softball resume

Rappahannock High School’s Meredith Slaw capped the triple crown of softball honors this week as the Class 1 state softball player of the year. Slaw, who helped lead Rappahannock to its second state championship in four years with a batting average of over .700, was also named  player of the year in the Northern Neck and Region A.

She hit a three-run homer in the state semifinal game to help the Raiderettes advance to the final. The Raiderettes went on to win the state championship over Auburn, 5-1.

Slaw, a senior third baseman who has committed to play at Virginia Tech next year, also earned a first team spot as utility player and was joined on the first-team by three Rappahannock teammates.
