Art and poetry of Miriam MacCarthy will be exhibited during October at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Towne Center Drive, Kilmarnock.
In this exhibit, “Songs of the River” scenes of the Rappahannock and its shores are featured, said McCarthy. These are works in oil and watercolor. Some are portraits of local watermen placed in the subjects’ environments.
MacCarthy lives in White Stone and works mainly in her home studio. Largely self-taught, she likes the quote, “art is not about knowing; it is about finding out.”
She is a member of the Rappahannock Art League, having received various awards, including Best in Show, since she joined the League in 1974.
