Sophie A. Lankford

Sophie A. Lankford

LIVELY—Sophie Antonia Lankford, née Van Dyck, was born on July 5, 1940, in Nieuwenhagen, Netherlands, and passed away on October 10, 2026.

Sophie loved tending to her flowers and garden, boating, traveling, exploring new places and gathering with family and friends. She especially loved the beach and joining family vacations. As a mother and grandmother, she was always willing to lend a helping hand, share her love, enjoy a shopping trip, or sit down for a good meal. These simple moments together created memories her family will cherish forever.

Sophie had a special place in her heart for her dogs, beginning with Little Bit, followed by Little Bit #2, Blackie, Chipper, Bear, and Louie, each a beloved companion throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel B. Lankford Jr. (Sam); her parents, Alwin Johan and Anna Catharina Van Dyck; and her brother, Willem Johan Van Dyck.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Adkins, and son-in-law, Dana; grandchildren, Daniel F. Kojima and Sierra Sophie Adkins; sister, Gertie Bindels; and brother, Johan W. Van Dyck.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Cindy Deaver, who lovingly cared for Sophie over the past six years, devoting countless hours to her care and being there whenever she was needed. Her kindness, compassion and dedication will always be remembered with gratitude.

Sophie will be deeply missed, but the love she shared, and the memories made with family, friends, and her beloved dogs will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lively.

Arrangements are being handled by Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.
