Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, will welcome journalist and author Andrew Lawler at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, for the second program in its 2026 Summer Speaker Series.
Lawler will discuss his book, A Perfect Frenzy: A Royal Governor, His Black Allies, and the Crisis That Spurred the American Revolution, a vivid account of the dramatic events in Virginia that helped drive the colonies toward independence.
Lawler explores the explosive months of 1775 and 1776, when Virginia’s last royal governor, Lord Dunmore, fled Williamsburg, established a stronghold in Norfolk, and issued a proclamation offering freedom to enslaved people and indentured servants who joined the British war effort. These events….
