The Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion will distribute poppies on Memorial Day weekend as a reminder of veterans and those who fought and gave their lives in support of the nation.
The poppies were chosen to symbolize this occasion because so many soldiers were killed or injured while fighting in the poppy fields of Flanders during World War I, reported Post 86 Ladies Auxiliary Unit chairman Heather Robertson.
