‘Teddy’s Place’ will open Friday for a three-day run at The Lancaster Playhouse

Rema Keen, portraying her grandmother at 9 years old, pauses from picking pawpaws to tell the story of how she came to be called “Teddy,” the moment that begins her grandmother’s remarkable journey.

The Lancaster Players will present “Teddy’s Piece,” April 17-19 at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. Shows will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The one-woman play will feature author, actor and storyteller Rema Keen. Tickets are $30 each. Purchase tickets at lancasterplayers.org, or 435-3776.

Teddy’s Piece is “at its heart, a love story,” said president Luke Rawls.

Keen embodies her grandmother’s remarkable journey, moving from Teddy’s childhood at age nine to her life as a 73-year-old woman. With each scene, Keen’s voice and presence transform, guiding audiences from the Appalachian coal fields of Southwest Virginia to New York City, Baltimore, Florida and a final return to her beloved Appalachian home place
