The Westmoreland Players will stage “The Diary of Anne Frank” from April 26 through May 12 at The Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao.
Adapted from the posthumously published diary of a young Jewish girl written during the Nazi occupation of Holland, the play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett was a Broadway hit and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1955. The play was updated by Wendy Kesselman in 1997 to reflect additional, previously unpublished pages from the diary, reported producer Marcia Peters.
The play opens on July 6, 1942, as the Frank and van Daan families move into hiding in a secret annex space above an Amsterdam office building to avoid arrest by the Nazis and deportation to the death camps. Later joined by another fugitive….
