Thomasyne Acree

WICOMICO CHURCHThomasyne DeNitta Benns McCoy Acree died June 21, 2021, at  St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond.

She was born in Richmond on June 20, 1960, to the late Thomas McCoy and Georgia Benns McCoy.

Thomasyne joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. She was educated in Northumberland County schools. She furthered her education at Virginia State College  (now Virginia State University) and the Virginia University of Lynchburg.

Thomasyne was employed by Lancaster County public school system.

She also served the churches of the Northern Neck as a musician and soloist. Thomasyne was licensed and ordained at Abiding Faith Baptist Church as a Minister of the Gospel. She served as minister of missions, minister of evangelism, clerk of the church, musician, Sunday school and Bible study teacher.

She served as president of the Northern Neck Baptist Association Convention Choir and as chaplain for the Northern Neck Ministers Conference.

Thomasyne joined the Wings of Praise, a local music group that accepted engagements throughout the Northern Neck and beyond, earning them many distinguished awards.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond B. Acree Jr.; a son, Raymond B. Acree III;  and grandchildren, Olivia Cockrell and Isiah Acree.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29.
