Casting call

The Westmoreland Players recently announced auditions for “Matilda, The Musical” by Roald Dahl. Auditions for ages 8-17 will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 7, and for adults, 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 8, at the Westmoreland Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao.

Chicken dinners

Due to the holidays American Legion Post #117 has rescheduled the January Chicken Dinner from Monday, January 2, to Monday, January 9. The dinner will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

The meal includes fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Rotary meetings

Beginning Wednesday, January 11, the Rotary Club of the Northern Neck will meet at River Counties Community Foundation (RCCF), 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Speakers for January 11 will be Lincoln Boykin, director of affiliate foundations, and Jonathan Putt, philanthropic advisor, both of the RCCF.

Meetings are held at 7:30 a.m. second and fourth Wednesdays. Anyone is welcome to join them for breakfast and see what Rotary is all about. Respond by email, [email protected].

Burns tribute

The Kilmarnock & District Pipe Band will hold its “Tribute to Robert Burns” at 2 p.m. January 21 at the Lodge #100, 1434 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock. Doors will open at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $30. Snacks and setups will be provided, to enhance the edibles (BYOB) brought by audience members. Purchase tickets at The Local in Irvington, Chesapeake Bank in Kilmarnock, Blue Ridge Bank branches in Kilmarnock and White Stone, and Primis Bank in Burgess, or call 577-3349.

Gardening seminar

The Gardening in the Northern Neck seminar, “In Your Own Backyard,” will be held March 25 at the White Stone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Drive, White Stone. Speakers will be Heather Holm, Barbara Pleasant and Edward Olsen.

The fee is $50. Lunches will be available for an additional fee. Registration forms will be available February 1 at www.nnmg.org.

Fruity Cuties

Fruity Cuties will be offered from 9 a.m.-noon February 10 at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. Colorful knitted fruit circles can be used as trivets, dishcloths and coasters.

The instructor will be Kay Olson. The fee is $35. Register at www.rhhtfoundation.org.

Weaving class

Beginning Weaving will be offered from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 24, 25 and 26 at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. The class will be taught by the Tavern Spinners & Weavers Guild.
