NPL trustees
The Northumberland Public Library board of trustees will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, in the public meeting room at the library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville. Anyone interested in learning more about this organization is welcome to attend.
Mystery night
Amateur sleuths are invited to solve The Mystery of the Golden Book at the Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, from 5-7 p.m. January 19.
This free event has food, mystery and fun for the whole family, reported director Jane Blue. A cast of characters will keep folks guessing until the mystery is solved.
Seafood dinner
Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat Shrimp & Oyster Dinner February 3 at the Lively Firehouse, 5170 Mary Ball Road, Lively. Hot dogs and bean soup also will be served.
Tickets are $50 per person. Tickets will be sold from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays through January 20. Tickets also will be available at Chesapeake Bank in Lively, Primis Bank in Burgess, Noblett Appliance in Kilmarnock, from ULVFD members and 462-5404.
Burns event
The Kilmarnock & District Pipe Band will hold a “Tribute to Robert Burns” January 27 at the Masonic Lodge #100, 1434 Good Luck Road, Kilmarnock. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the program will begin at 2 p.m. The event will offer snacks and set-ups; BYOB.
Tickets are $35 each and available at The Local in Irvington, Chesapeake Bank in Kilmarnock and White Stone, and Primis Bank in Burgess. Checks also can be mailed in by calling 577-3349.
Gardening seminar
The Northern Neck Master Gardeners (NNMG) Association will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gardening in the Northern Neck Seminar (GNN) on April 13. The seminar will be held at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.
The theme will be “Creating Outdoor Spaces—Defining Your Lifestyle.” The seminar fee is $50. Lunches will be available for an additional fee. Registration forms will be available February 1 at www.nnmg.org.
Chamber series
The Northern Neck Orchestra 2023-24 Chamber Music Series will continue with Cello Suites by Bach Parts One and Two, at 7:30 p.m. February 3 and 2 p.m. February 4 at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.
Admission is by season subscription, or $30 for each session. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the check-in desk. Students are admitted free.
