Murder mystery
Northumberland Public Library (NPL), 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will host “I Love the 80s to Death,” a night of murder mystery, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 6. Special guests The Murder Mystery Company will bring this free program to life.
Appetizers, mocktails and suspense await. Sign up at NPL for this free event for all ages and come dressed in a favorite 80s outfit.
Black history
Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford, recently announced its Black History Month lecture by Seth E. Rockman, author of Plantation Goods: A Material History of American Slavery, will be offered virtually at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 8. The fee is $5. To register, visit stratfordhall.org.
On February 14, admission to the preserve will be $5 for The Crossroads: African & African American Culture at Stratford Hall, a self-guided audio tour.
Beekeepers
The Northern Neck Beekeepers Club meets at 7:30 p.m. on second Mondays at Heathsville United Methodist Church,39 Courthouse Road, Heathsville.
Fiber guild
The Five Rivers Fiber Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, February 9, in Art Room 2 in the Life Enrichment Center at Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury (RWC), 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington. Fiber guild member Amy Hinson will demonstrate 3D fabric art on canvas technique.
Visitors and potential new members are welcome. Lunch is available at RWC after the meeting concludes.
Widows support
A Space for Healing, Widows Support Group will meet from 1-4 p.m. on second Fridays at Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.
Come for the support and camaraderie of others who may have walked the path, enjoy fellowship, games, light snacks and beverages.
Photo Group
The Rappahannock Art League Photo Group seeks new members of all levels who wish to improve their skills. The Photo Group meets at 10 a.m. on third Mondays at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

Musical theater
The Westmoreland Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao, will present “The Spitfire Grill,” February 20-March 8. The production will open with a gala and performance at 7:30 p.m. February 20. The schedule will continue at 7:30 p.m. February 21, 27, March 6 and 7 and 3 p.m. February 22, 28 and March 1 and 8.

Celtic rock
Scythian, a Celtic-American rock band, will present an On Stage concert February 28 at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 131 School Street, Kilmarnock. The concert, hosted by the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7.

Book talk rescheduled
The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum rescheduled its February 2 book talk and signing to 6:30 p.m. March 2 at the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department, 119 Main Street, Reedville.
Participants will include Tom Briggs, author of War on the Inland Sea, author Susan Swift and illustrator Heather Cockrell of The ABCs of Oystering on the Chesapeake Bay, and Joseph W. Smith author of Menhaden.
Pruning
The Gloucester Master Gardeners will present a free informational session on pruning at 10 a.m. February 28 at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, 7900 Daffodil Lane, Gloucester. No registration is required.
Oyster roast
Smith Point Sea Rescue will hold its 30th Oyster Roast from 2-5 p.m. March 7 at Cowart Seafood Corp., 755 Lake Landing Drive, Lottsburg. Tickets are $45 and by advance sales only. Purchase tickets at Lilian Lumber Home Center, Jett’s Hardware, R.W.’s Sport Shop, or from any Smith Point Sea Rescue member.
The menu will include raw and steamed oysters, clam chowder, hot dogs, soft drinks and coffee. Beer, wine and oyster knives will be sold for an additional fee.
Casino night
The Friends of Northumberland Public Library will host a Western Casino Night fundraiser from 6-8:30 p.m. March 28 at the Mallard Bay Clubhouse, 303 Mallard Bay Drive, Heathsville. Barbecue, casino games and a raffle will be featured.
Tickets are $100 each. Proceeds will benefit the library’s programs and children’s events. Only 60 tickets will be sold. Tickets are available at the library. Western wear is encouraged.
