“Almost, Maine”

“Almost, Maine” will open with a gala at 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, at the Westmoreland Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao. Tickets for the opening night gala are $40 for adults and $27 for students.

The production will continue with 7:30 p.m. shows February 10, 16, 17 and 23, and 3 p.m. February 11, 18, 24 and 25. Tickets for the remaining shows are $30 for adults and $17 for students. Purchase tickets at westmorelandplayers.org/tickets or call 529-9345.

Genealogy 

The Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) will meet virtually at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10. This meeting will feature a roundtable discussion at which participants will have a chance to share queries and details about their family research.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2023-24 season will continue on Saturday, February 10, with the Latin Ballet of Virginia performing “Alma Latina.” The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

Oyster talk

The Steamboat Era Museum (SEM) Second Saturday Speaker Series will continue Saturday, February 10, with Jennifer Sagan of the Friends of the Rappahannock. The lecture will be held from 2-3 p.m. at SEM, 150 King Carter Drive, Irvington.

Sagan will speak on the eastern oyster. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at steamboateramuseum.org or at the door. 

Club meeting

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, at the WCNC Clubhouse, 2928 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg. The club will begin gathering at noon.

“Cupid’s Cabaret”

Starlet Knight and Anthony Dowd will present a Valentine-themed cabaret at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

Tickets for “Cupid’s Cabaret” are $20. Purchase tickets at www.lancasterplayers.org, or call 435-3776. The Playhouse will open an hour before curtain for a social hour with cash bar.

Student revue

“Rappahannock Rendezvous” will open to the public at 7 p.m. February 16 and 17 in the David & Wendy Charlton Center for the Fine and Performing Arts at Christchurch School, 49 Seahorse Lane, Christchurch.

The cast and crew of 30 will bring the songs of the silver screen to life in an all-original script, written by a team of students. Tickets may be reserved at [email protected].

Movie night

The Mathews Historical Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews, will show “The Loving Story” on February 16. A reception will begin at 5 p.m. The movie will follow at 6 p.m.

History program

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) and the Nickens Family on February 24 will host, “A Family’s Journey into the Life and Legacy of the Honorable Armistead S. Nickens,” presented by a panel of descendants.

Thoughtful gardening

The Garden Club of the Northern Neck will host Leslie Harris of Into the Garden with Leslie at 10 a.m. February 29 at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Good Luck Road, Kilmarnock.

Harris will present “Thoughtful gardening: how to combine sustainability with beauty in the garden.” The program is free and open to the public.

NNO concert

The Northern Neck Orchestra’s 2023-24 concert season will continue at 7:30 p.m. March 2 at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, Kilmarnock. Music director Michael Repper will host a talk prior to the performance. 

Admission is by season subscription or $40. Tickets can be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the door. Students are admitted free. 

Oyster roast

The 29th Smith Point Sea Rescue Oyster Roast will be held from 2-5 p.m. March 2 at Cowart Seafood Corp., 755 Lake Landing Drive, Lottsburg. The menu will include raw and steamed oysters, clam chowder, hot dogs, soft drinks and coffee.

Tickets are $45 per person, advance sales only. Ages 10 and younger will be admitted at no charge. Beer will be an additional $4 per serving and wine, $5 per serving. Oyster roast tickets are available at Lilian Lumber Home Center, Jett’s Hardware, R.W.’s Sport shop and from Smith Point Sea Rescue members.
