Medicinal plants

The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will meet at noon today, March 20, at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. Bring a lunch or snack to eat, meet and greet chapter members and others. Light refreshments will be available.

At 12:30 p.m., “Native Medicinal Plants of the Northern Neck,” will be presented by Heather Bedford.

Three more shows

The Lancaster Players will present “Don’t Dress for Dinner” at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. Evening performances are planned March 21 and 22 and a matinees March 23.

RCA concert

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present singer and actor Ciaran Sheehan at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Northumberland County School Performing Arts Theater, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville.

Admission is by subscription, or a single concert ticket, $35. Purchase tickets at rappahannockconcerts.org, or at the door on concert night, cash or check only.

Rotary dates

The Northern Neck Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Those interested in the speaker topics or Rotary are welcome.

On March 26, Doug Mock will speak on the RAL Art Center smART Program.

Afternoon tea

The Chesapeake Bay Garden Club will hold a fundraiser tea at 3 p.m. April 1 at Heathsville United Methodist Church, 39 Courthouse Road, Heathsville. There will be food, special music and a speaker on the history of the afternoon tea.

The fee is $25. Proceeds will benefit the Northumberland High School scholarship fund. To RSVP, call Pam at 540-379-2026.

Brews & BBQ

The Stratford Hall Brews & BBQ Festival will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. April 5 at Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford. Enjoy barbecue, beverages, crafts, music and tours of the Great House and grounds.

Through April 3, tickets are $35 for ages 14 and older and on festival day, $45. Tickets are $10 for ages 6-13 and $5 for ages 5 and younger. Purchase tickets at stratfordhall.org.

Historic map

The Northumberland County Historical Society (NCHS) will host historian Mark Gearhart at 2:30 p.m. April 6 at the Ball Memorial Library and Museum, 86 Back Street, Heathsville.

Gearhart will discuss the recently released 17th century map of Northumberland County. The presentation is free to the public and light refreshments will be served after the program.

Wren Masters

The Wren Masters will return at 4 p.m. April 5 to Historic Christ Church (HCC), 420 Christ Church Road, Weems with “Textures of the Baroque.” A reception will be held in the churchyard at intermission. Tickets are $30 at ChristChurch1735.org/programs.

Featuring the music of Buxtehude, Schmelzer, J.S. Bach, Jean-Philippe Rameau and showcasing Opus 93, HCC’s new continuo organ, this program will explore the contrasting keyboard sounds of both organ and harpsichord with the baroque violin and viola da gamba. 

Lee’s surrender

“A Convulsion at Appomattox: Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, and the Long History of Civil War Surrender,” a virtual lecture with Dr. David Silkenat will be presented at 6 p.m. April 9 by Stratford Hall Historic Preserve. The fee is $5. Advance registration is required, www.StratfordHall.org.

Join Dr. Gordon Blaine Steffey prior to the lecture at 5 p.m. in the Jessie Ball duPont Memorial Library for a reception and viewing of archives related to the Surrender at Appomattox Court House and the new Robert E. Lee Special Collection. At 6 p.m., there will be a livestream of Dr. Silkenat’s lecture. The fee is $10 for the reception and livestream. Advance registration is required.

Yoga in Italy

Registration has begun for InsideOut Yoga’s (IOY) retreat to Italy October 12-19, 2025. The theme will be “I Feel You” and is a sumptuous experience for mind, body and spirit at Locanda del Gallo in the heart of Umbria, an Italian region bordering Tuscany, known for its medieval hill towns, dense forests and local cuisine.
