Art and flowers

On Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2, RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will hold a special exhibit in which 19 floral designers will interpret artwork in the gallery. Floral designs will be on display Friday and Saturday. Visitors to RAL can vote for their favorite interpretation on Friday.

A First Friday reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.; the winner of the People’s Choice award will be announced at the conclusion of the reception.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2021-22 On Stage season will continue Saturday, April 2, with Motones and Jerseys: In Concert. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

Admission is by season subscription or single ticket, $45. For tickets, call the RFA at 438-5555 to be placed on a “will call” list.

Resource fair

The annual Resource Family Fun Fair, presented by the Northumberland County Department of Social Services will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Northumberland Family YMCA, 6348 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Enjoy a free boxed lunch while exploring community resources available to families. There will be door prizes and activities.

RFM lecture

The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum will host Ocean Fleet Services vice president Monty Deihl at 7 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Festival Halle, 177 Main Street, Reedville.

Deihl will present An Inside Look at Omega Protein. The suggested admission is $5, payable by cash or check at the door. To RSVP, email [email protected].

Vineyard opera

Capitol Opera Richmond will present Music in the Books at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.capitoloperarichmond.com.

RCA concert

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present The Alexandria Harmonizers  at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Northumberland School Complex Theater, 201 Academic Lane, Claraville.

Admission is by season subscription, or $25. For tickets, call 888-210-8006, visit www.rappahannockconcerts.org, or pay at the door. Students are free.

Barbecue

The American Legion Post 86, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock, will host a Barbecue-To-Go event from 3-7 p.m. April 9 to benefit the Post’s veteran and community programs.

This is carry-out only and the cost of the pulled pork barbecue is $15 per pound. 

Auditions

The Westmoreland Players will conduct auditions for Lost in Yonkers by Neil Simon at 6:30 p.m. April 12 and 13 at the Westmoreland Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao. The play is scheduled to open in August.

The cast will include two men, ages 40s-60s; three women, ages 30s-60s; and two younger male, ages 10-17. No experience is necessary. Call the box office, 529-9345, with questions.

Casting call

The Lancaster Players will conduct auditions for “Let Him Sleep ‘til It’s Time for His Funeral” by Peg Kehret from 7-8 p.m. April 11 and 12 at The Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. The comedy will be staged weekends, June 10-25.

The casting call is for two men and two women of middle-age to older-age, one teen-age girl, and one male of any age for one small role. Those who cannot attend auditions on either date may respond to [email protected] or 435-3776.
