RCA concert

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present The Alexandria Harmonizers  at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Northumberland School Complex Theater, 201 Academic Lane, Claraville.

Genealogy 

The Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society will hold a virtual meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9. This meeting will feature a roundtable discussion at which participants will have a chance to share queries and details about their family research.

Barbecue

The American Legion Post 86, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock, will host a Barbecue-To-Go event from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, April 9, to benefit the Post’s veteran and community programs.

This is carry-out only and the cost of the pulled pork barbecue is $15 per pound. 

Spring Strings

The Northern Neck Orchestra will present “Spring Strings” at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

Tickets to the chamber concert are $30 and may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org, or at the check-in desk. Students will be admitted at no charge.

Easter bunny

The Easter bunny will arrive on the Elva C at 10 a.m. April 16 at the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street, Reedville. Afterwards an Easter egg hunt will take place nearby at Bethany United Methodist Church.

Field trip

The Five Rivers Fiber Guild will take a field trip to the King William Alpaca Farm on Monday, April 11. Carpools will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Kilmarnock UMC, 89 East Church Street, Kilmarnock. Contact Penny Mace at 453-4108 for details.

Try it Tuesday

RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host a Try It Tuesday class from 6-8 p.m. April 12. The project will be fused glass jewelry with glass artist Laurie Breakwell.

Pieces assembled at RAL will be left with the instructor for firing and will be available for pick up at a pre-determined time. Register at the art center,  www.ralartcenter.com, or 436-9309.

Casting call

The Lancaster Players will conduct auditions for “Let Him Sleep ‘til It’s Time for His Funeral” by Peg Kehret from 7-8 p.m. Monday, April 11, and Tuesday, April 12, at The Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. The comedy, directed by Linda Stough, will be staged weekends, June 10-25.

The casting call is for two men and two women of middle-age to older-age, one teen-age girl, and one male of any age for one small role. Those who cannot attend auditions on either date may respond to [email protected] or 435-3776.

Auditions

The Westmoreland Players will conduct auditions for Lost in Yonkers by Neil Simon at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, and  Wednesday, April 13, at the Westmoreland Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao. The play is scheduled to open in August.

The cast will include two men, ages 40s-60s; three women, ages 30s-60s; and two younger male, ages 10-17. No experience is necessary. Call the box office, 529-9345, with questions.

MCVRS celebration

The Mid-County Volunteer Rescue Squad invites to the community to help celebrate its 35th anniversary from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the squad building, 7990 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Homemakers

The Northumberland Homemaker Club will host a fundraiser tea at 11 a.m. April 25 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Heathsville. A $25 donation is suggested.
