Garden club

The Kilmarnock Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Center Drive, Kilmarnock. The speaker will be Nancy Garvey, a member of the Northern Neck of Virginia Native Plant Society. She will present “Friends Don’t Let Friends Plant Invasives.”

This program will address the objectives of Northern Neck Partners for Regional invasive Species Management and mitigation techniques for invasive plant species for private landowners.

Earth Day

The Northumberland County Anti-Litter Committee will participate in the Earth Day Celebration from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Heathsville Farmers Market, Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

In recognition of Earth Day, items that support litter control, such as pickers, vests, gloves, cigarette butt disposal cups and cargo nets, will be available to Northumberland County residents, while supplies last.

Benefit gala

The annual Diamonds & Denim gala and auction will be held Saturday, April 25, at Healthy Harvest Food Bank, 55 Commerce Drive, Warsaw. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $75 each and include beer, wine, signature drinks, dinner, dessert and entertainment. Purchase tickets at www.hhfb.org.

Genealogy conference

 The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS), in cooperation with the Virginia Genealogical Society (VGS), will host a group viewing party from 9:45 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, to show the Zoom broadcast of the VGS Spring Conference, “The Eve of Independence: Colonial Research in Virginia.”

Beach music

Concerts By The Bay will present The Holiday Band at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. The group will perform “Good ‘Ole Beach Music.”

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts will host an On Stage concert May 3 by Camerata RCO from Amsterdam. Camerata RCO performs chamber music with a focus on the Classical and Romantic repertoire for winds and strings.

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. Doors will open at 3 p.m. Admission is by season subscription, or $45 at www.rappahannockfoundation.org, 438-5555, or the door.

Photo Group

The Rappahannock Art League Photo Group seeks new members of all levels who wish to improve their skills. The Photo Group meets at 10 a.m. on third Mondays at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

The Northern Neck Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Those interested in the speaker topics or Rotary are welcome.

Preakness Party

The Rappahannock Community College (RCC) Educational Foundation will host the 22nd annual Preakness Party from 4-7 p.m. May 16 at Ditchley, 1571 Ditchley Road, Kilmarnock. Tickets are $100 per guest. Purchase tickets at 333-6707 or www.rappahannock.edu/preaknessparty.

The event offers food, drink, live and silent auctions, “Most Audacious Hat” and “Best Dressed Man” contests and a broadcast of the Preakness Stakes on big screens under the tent.

Movie tunes

The Northern Neck Orchestra will present A Night at The Movies: Tribute to John Williams on May 16 at the Lancaster Elementary Theater, 181 School Street, Kilmarnock. A pre-concert talk will begin at 6:45 p.m., the concert will follow at 7 p.m.

Preservation tour

Senior director of preservation Phil Mark will present Uncover Three Centuries of Architectural Wonder Stratford, a behind-the-scenes tour of the 18th-century Great House, from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May 16 at Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.

The tour will focus on the main floor of the house and the most recent room restoration projects, as well as the exterior and lower level and projects at neighboring outbuildings. Tickets are $46.90 at stratfordhall.org.

Garden party

The Mathews Historic House Tour & Garden Party will be held from 2-5 p.m. May 17 at Providence Manor, the home of Jim and Celia McKinnon. The event is a fundraising effort of the Mathews County Historical Society.

Vice president of research and collections Dr. Gordon Blaine Steffey will present Stratford Vault Sessions: Documenting the Revolution from 2-4 p.m. May 31 at Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.

Landscape tour

Director of landscapes Matt Peterschmidt will present Explore the Past, Present and Future of Stratford’s Historic Gardens and Grounds from 10 a.m.-noon June 20 at Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.

The tour will look at the past, present and future of the landscape around the nearly 300-year-old Great House. Tickets are $46.90 at stratfordhall.org.
