Rivah Quilters

The Rivah Quilters will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Kilmarnock. This month everyone is encouraged to bring any quilted item that is red, white and blue.

Visitors and new members are always welcome. Meetings include times of fellowship, sharing and encouragement. Lunch will be provided.

Birthday party

The F.D. Crockett is turning 100 and the community is invited to a birthday celebration on Sunday, June 16, at the Deltaville Maritime Museum, 287 Jackson Creek Road, Deltaville. From 1:30-3 p.m., there will be an open house aboard the F.D. Crockett.

From 3-5 p.m. Barefoot Davis and his Island Band will perform. Concert admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Purchase advance tickets at www.deltavillemuseum.com.

Veterans’ brealfast

Commonwealth Senior Living, 460 South Main Street, Kilmarnock will serve a Veterans’ Breakfast from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on third Tuesdays. Call 695-7290 to register.

Children’s tours

The Steamboat Era Museum, 156 King Carter Drive, Irvington, will offer children’s tours from 10:30-noon on Fridays, June 21, 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 2 and 9, for ages 4-12. Turn the wheel in the pilothouse, play steamboat era games and make a wooden steamboat to float in a pool.

Blooms and Buterflies

Shiloh School, 979 Shiloh Road, Kilmarnock, will commemorate National Pollinator Week with “Blooms and Butterflies” at 2 p.m. June 22. The program will include a presentation about butterflies and a tour of Shiloh School’s native plant garden featuring blooms attractive to pollinators. Light refreshments will be available.

Afternoon Tea

The Clubhouse at Stratford Harbour in Westmoreland County is going to the dogs—and cats. An Afternoon Tea to benefit the Northern Neck Partners for Pets (NNPP) will be held at 3 p.m. June 22. Seatings will be at noon and 3 p.m.

Ox flute presentation

“A Journey of Ancestral Music and Exploration of the African Ox Flute” will be presented at 1 p.m. June 22 at Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. Joshua Allen will present the history, tradition, music and craft of this instrument through demonstration, storytelling and song.

Summer bash

The Virginia Northern Neck Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will hold an All White Summer Bash from 5-9 p.m. June 29 at the Tappahannock/Essex Fire Hall Outdoor Pavilion, 620 Airport Road, Tappahannock. Guests are invited to dress in all-white attire and bring lawn chairs for a night of music, food and fellowship.

First Africans

The fourth annual First Africans Day at Stratford Hall will return July 27 to commemorate the enslaved Africans and African Americans who built and sustained Stratford Hall and the Lee family for generations.

Throughout the day descendants, historical interpreters and artists will gather with the public to remember and honor those once enslaved at Stratford Hall through music, art, dancing and storytelling. First Africans Day is from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and is free. To register in advance, visit https://bit.ly/firstafricansday.

Museum night

A Night at the Museum will be held for ages 7-12 from 5-9 p.m. July 28 at the Steamboat Era Museum, 156 King Carter Drive, Irvington. Enjoy a special craft, games, pizza party, scavenger hunt and the movie “Night at the Museum” with popcorn.
