Photographing the night sky
A Special Evening With… will continue at 6:30 p.m. today, July 24, at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. Speaker Bob Sutherland will present “Photographing the Night Skies.”
The program is free and open to the public. It may also be viewed on Facebook Live, or later on the library’s YouTube channel.
First African Day
First African Day will be observed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Stratford Hall Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.
The celebration will include dance performances, culinary demonstrations, music, art, tours, storytellers and at 3 p.m., a presentation by 2025 Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Edda L. Fields-Black.
Historical society annual meeting
The Northumberland County Historical Society has extended an invitation to the community to attend the annual meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, at the Ball Memorial Library and Museum, 86 Back Street, Heathsville.
Following a short business meeting, Heather Bedford will present “Healing Plants of the Northern Neck and the Healers that Used Them.” Light refreshments and fellowship will follow.
Steamboat stories
The Steamboat Era Museum will host a special Speaker Series event at 2 p.m. August 8 in Weems. Chip Woodson and Margery Nea will tell stories of their ancestors who once owned and operated the steamboat wharf in Weems.
Enjoy a tour of the house and the site of the old wharf. Address will be provided via email upon registration. Tickets are $5 at steamboateramuseum.org.
On Stage
Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts On Stage season tickets are on sale. Five shows are planned at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock, for the “Magical Medleys” series.

Post 86
American Legion Adams Post 86 meets at 5 p.m. on third Tuesdays at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.
Rotary meetings
The Northern Neck Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Those interested in the speaker topics or Rotary are welcome.
