Aquapalooza

Aquapalooza, featuring the HonyTonk Heroes, will be held at 3 p.m. September 3 in front of the Morris-Fisher Tall Stack on Cockrell Creek at Omega Protein. Proceeds will support Reedville Fishermen’s Museum’s efforts to restore Festival Halle. This concert cannot be accessed by land.

Crab feast

The Northumberland County Community Center Organization (NCCCO) will hold a crab feast from 2-6 p.m. September 2 at the NCCCO building, 679 Browns Store Road, Heathsville. The menu will include all you can eat crabs, fried chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, homemade soups and salad. Beer and wine will be available for an additional fee.

Wine & Whiskers

Wine & Whiskers, a gala event to benefit Garfield’s Rescue, Inc., will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. September 7 at Trinity Episcopal Church Pavilion, 8484 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster. Patrons will enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres, music, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at www.garfieldsrescue.org, WOWD in Kilmarnock, Bayside Animal Hospital in White Stone or FNCAS Thrift Shop in Burgess.

Music by the River

The Music by the River concert series will continue September 9 with the Karen Jonas Band. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster.

Picnics are welcome. A limited number of picnic tables will be available. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. The show is free; however, there is a $5 parking fee payable at the park entrance.

Steamed crabs

The Morattico Waterfront Museum, 6584 Morattico Road, Morattico, will host the 12th annual crab feast from 4-6 p.m. September 9. The menu will include all-you-can-eat steamed crabs, potato salad, pea salad, hot dogs, sodas and water. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Chamber series

The Northern Neck Orchestra (NNO) 2023-24 Chamber Music Series will open with Clarinet Trios, at 2 p.m. September 10 at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

Admission is by season subscription or $35. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the check-in desk. Students are admitted free.

Symposium

Stratford Hall, 483 Great House Road, Stratford, will host the Pitt, Peale, & the Patriots Symposium from 1-7:30 p.m. September 9. Distinguished speakers will focus on the historical context and significance of the Pitt portrait and commission, its political and art historical contents, and the art and value of its reproduction for Stratford Hall.

A reception and viewing of the William Pitt portrait will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Inn at Montross, 21 Polk Street, Montross. Tickets are $30 general admission, $20, members and $10, students. Register in advance at stratfordhall.org.

Wine & oysters

Stratford Hall, 483 Great House Road, Stratford, will host the annual Wine & Oyster Festival September 16 and 17. The festival will feature Virginia wineries, distilleries, oysters, food trucks, beer, artisan booths, music and car shows.

Early bird tasting tickets are $30 through September 14. Day of tickets will be $40. A non-tasting ticket is $20; ages 6-13, $10; and children younger than age 5, free. A two-day combo ticket is $50. Purchase early bird tickets at stratfordhall.org.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

The Steamboat Era Museum will host the Irvington Crab Festival from 4-8 p.m. September 16, at the Irvington Town Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington. The $75 admission includes all-you-can-eat steamed crabs, barbecue, hot dogs and soft drinks. Crabs will be served starting at 5 p.m. All other food and beverages will be available at 4 p.m. Beer and wine will be available for purchase for $5.

Dolley Madison

The Historic Christ Church & Museum Readers group will continue its study and discussion of America’s First Ladies at 9:30 a.m. September 19, in the Bayne Conference Room, Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, and by Zoom. The discussion book will be A Perfect Union: Dolley Madison and the Creation of the American Nation, by Catherine Allgor.

Black Tie & Boots

The State Fair of Virginia will host the Black Tie & Boots gala at 6 p.m. September 22 at The Meadow Event Park’s Meadow Hall and lawn in Caroline County. Proceeds benefit scholarships. Admission to Black Tie & Boots is by advance purchase only.

Gala tickets can be purchased at StateFairVa.org. Tickets are $125 per person through August 20 and $150 per person August 21 through September 14.

State Fair

The State Fair of Virginia seeks entries for 2023 competitions. There are numerous categories for adults and youth.

Competition guides with entry deadlines, registration and category descriptions for culinary and creative arts and horticulture entries are online at StateFairVA.org. The 2023 State Fair of Virginia will be held September 22 through October 1 at The Meadow Event Park in Doswell.

Raise the Roof

Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, invites the community to its eighth annual Raise the Roof fall festival from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, September 23. The event features two bands, Virginia craft beers, wine, barbecue (or vegetarian fare) and homemade ice cream.

Family reunion

RCA show

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present the Peter and Will Anderson Trio at 7:30 p.m., September 23 at the Northumberland County School Complex, 201 Academic Lane, Claraville. The clarinet and saxophone virtuosos, joined by a guitarist, will present a program of Irving Berlin’s compositions.

Fun & Games BBQ

The Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville will hold a “Fun & Games” BBQ fundraiser from 3-6 p.m. September 30. The menu will include pulled pork, chicken and sausage, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, appetizers, desserts and soft drinks. Beer and wine will be sold separately.
