The American Legion Adams Post 86 Ladies Auxiliary is conducting a raffle for a patriotic, queen-size quilt. A drawing will be held December 3.
Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. The tickets will be sold from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on September 8, 9 and 22 and October 6, 7, 20 and 21 in front of Tri-Star Supermarket, 81 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock. Tickets also may be purchased from any auxiliary member.
The Rappahannock Garden Club (RGC) is celebrating its 60-year anniversary today, September 8, at Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock.
Among the many festivities members and guests will enjoy, RGC will hold a huge yard sale including artisanal crafts, plants, jewelry and baked goods. The public is welcome at 1 p.m.

Historic sites tour
Preservation Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula will host a tour of two historic sites in Westmoreland County from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 10.
The group will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Yeocomico Church (1706), 1233 Old Yeocomico Road, Tucker Hill, reported president Marsha Sitnik. Following a tour of the historic church, the group will visit Arlington Farm (1790). The Colonial Beach Community Foundation will host the fourth annual Northern Neck Beach Music Festival Saturday, September 10, featuring The Embers, The Feature Attraction band, Motown Butta and Craig Jennings, on Town Hill in Colonial Beach.

Guitarist Larry Carlton and his band will open the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2022-23 On Stage season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, September 10, at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. Carlton will present ‘78 Album: Steely Dan Remembered, sharing songs and stories from his days as primary guitarist for Steely Dan.

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville. However, the monthly dinner will be held September 12 due to the Labor Day holiday.
Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.
The Chesapeake Chorale will hold a rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Monday, September 12, at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock, to prepare for a three concert Christmas season.
The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County will meet Tuesday, September 13, at the WCNC Clubhouse, 2928 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg. The club will gather at noon for refreshments; the meeting will start at 12:30 p.m.
The speaker will be Kathleen Nelson, author of six novels, with a seventh due for release in the fall.
