Chorale season

Chesapeake Chorale rehearsals for 2023 Christmas concerts will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Mondays through mid-November at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. No audition is required to join this mixed-voice community group.

Rivah Quilters

The Rivah Quilters Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, September 13, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 435 East Church Street, Kilmarnock. There will be a show-and-tell session to share creations from the September Quilter Retreat. Lunch will also be provided for all.

The Rivah Quilters provide “Comfort Quilts” to patients in local oncology units. Five new quilts made by individual members recently were delivered to Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital.

Black Tie & Boots

Black Tie & Boots will be held at 6 p.m. September 27, at State Fair of Virginia, Meadow Hall, Meadow Event Park, 13191 Dawn Boulevard, Doswell The gala offers dancing, dining, auctions and cocktails.

Gala tickets can be purchased at StateFairVa.org. Tickets are $150 per person through September 14. Proceeds will benefit youth through the State Fair of Virginia Scholarship Program.

Bay concerts

Concerts by the Bay will present Alter Eagles at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 15, at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews.

Tickets are $30 at the door; students free. A subscription series of five concerts September through April starts at $120 through Concerts by the Bay and includes reciprocal opportunities at Arts Alive in West Point and Rappahannock Concert Association in Heathsville. Potluck dinner

Bluff Point Community League will hold a potluck dinner Monday, September 16, at 2595 Bluff Point Road, Kilmarnock. Social time will begin at 6 p.m.; dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome; bring a dish to share.

Northumberland County District 4 Supervisor A.C. Fisher Jr. will be the after-dinner speaker.

Annual meeting

The Northumberland Public Library board of trustees will hold its annual meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, at NPL, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Park concerts

Music on the Half Shell Stage at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will continue September 20 with Ray Pittman Rockin Blues Band and October 4 with Raquel & The Wildflowers.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. and music will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is by season pass or $10. Tickets are available at www.kilmarnockva.com or the gate.

75 years

The RAL Art Center on September 21 will celebrate 75 years of “Bringing Art to the Community and the Community to the Arts” with Be Part of the Art from 6-9 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck, 517 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. The gala will feature artful entertainment, immersive activities and tantalizing cuisine.

Crab festival

The Steamboat Era Museum will hold the Irvington Crab Festival from 4:30-8 p.m. September 21 at the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington. Crabs will be served starting at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $60 and include all-you-can-eat crabs, hot dogs or pork barbecue, soda and water. Beer and wine will be for sale at $5 per glass. Tickets may be purchased at steamboateramuseum.org.

Postal history

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) and Lancaster Community Library (LCL) will co-host a talk by Andy Graff, “Early Postal History of Lancaster County,” September 17, at LCL, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m.

RCA concerts

The Rappahannock Concert Association will open its 41st concert season at 7:30 p.m. September 21 at the Northumberland County School Performing Arts Theater, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville. The six-concert series will begin with the Crown Mountain Trio Classical Ensemble.

There are four ticket purchase options, reserved seats for the six concerts, $135; regular seating for all six concerts, $110; any three of the six concerts, $70; a single concert ticket, $35. Students are admitted free. To purchase tickets, go to www.rappahannockconcerts.org.

Boots and Barbecue

Boots and Barbecue to benefit Northern Neck Land Conservancy will be held from 1-4 p.m. September 28 at King Copsico Farm on the water in Westmoreland County.

The event features a barbecue buffet, music and exhibitors and demonstrations that reflect the rural character of the Northern Neck. Tickets are $50 each. To become a sponsor or purchase a ticket, visit nnconserve.org.

Antique quilts

“Threads of Our History: Quilts of Mathews Virginia,” will open at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews, on October 5 and will be on exhibit through the end of December.

Beginning October 4, the museum will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of December.

NNO season

The Northern Neck Orchestra 2024-25 season will open October 5 with Dvorak at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street in Kilmarnock. A pre-concert talk will begin at 6:45 p.m.; the performance at 7:30 p.m.

Season tickets for the four-concert series are $128. Single tickets for each concert are $40. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or the door. Students are admitted free.
