Boots and Barbecue

Boots and Barbecue to benefit Northern Neck Land Conservancy will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at King Copsico Farm on the water in Westmoreland County.

The event features a barbecue buffet, music and exhibitors and demonstrations that reflect the rural character of the Northern Neck. Tickets are $50 each. To become a sponsor or purchase a ticket, visit nnconserve.org.

Auditions

The Westmoreland Players, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao, will hold open auditions for “The Addams Family Musical” from 6-9 p.m. October 4 and 2-6 p.m. October 5. The dance portion of the audition will be held at 2 p.m. October 6. The dance audition is mandatory for all auditioners.

Antique quilts

“Threads of Our History: Quilts of Mathews Virginia,” will open at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews, on Saturday, October 5, and will be on exhibit through the end of December.

Beginning Friday, October 4, the museum will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of December.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Reach for the Stars

The 2024 Capt. William H. Knull Community Service Award winners will be recognized at Reach for the Stars on October 17 at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck, 517 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Honorees will include Tonya Carter, Jack and Susan Moore and Dr. Bernard “Trey” Davis III.

The event will open with a cocktail hour at 5 p.m. and will be catered by Ma Margaret’s House Bed & Breakfast. Tickets are $100 per person or $750 for a table of eight. To purchase tickets, visit bgcnn.org or call 435-9696 Ext. 104.

Open Mic Night

Literacy Connect will sponsor Open Mic Night from 7-9 p.m. October 18 at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. The theme will be “Someone Who Made A Difference in My Life.”

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2024-25 On Stage series will open at 7:30 p.m. October 19 with Dancing Dream, an ABBA tribute band, at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

Chamber concert

The Northern Neck Orchestra’s chamber music concert on November 10 has been relocated to Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street in Kilmarnock. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or the door.

The concert of music for violin and piano will begin at 2 p.m. and will highlight music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Igor Stravinsky, Bela Bartok and Edward Elgar.
