Auditions

The Westmoreland Players, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao, will hold open auditions for “The Addams Family Musical” from 6-9 p.m. October 4 and 2-6 p.m. October 5. The dance portion of the audition will be held at 2 p.m. October 6. The dance audition is mandatory for all auditioners.

Corn maze

The Northern Neck Farm Museum/Luther Welch Agricultural Center, 12705 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will host a corn maze through October. The maze is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

The fee is $5 per person with a $20 maximum per family; ages 3 and younger are free. Closed-tow shoes are required.

Antique quilts

“Threads of Our History: Quilts of Mathews Virginia,” will open at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews, on Saturday, October 5, and will be on exhibit through the end of December.

Beginning Friday, October 4, the museum will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of December.

NNO season

The Northern Neck Orchestra 2024-25 season will open Saturday, October 5, with Dvorak at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street in Kilmarnock. A pre-concert talk will begin at 6:45 p.m.; the performance at 7:30 p.m.

Season tickets for the four-concert series are $128. Single tickets for each concert are $40. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or the door. Students are admitted free.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Grand opening

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society will hold a dedication and grand opening celebration 11 a.m. October 12 at the Dunton Library for Genealogy and History in Lancaster. Reservations are requested at LancasterVaHistory.org or 462-7280.

Named in honor of Ammon G. Dunton Jr. for his longtime support of community history, the new facility provides improved space for library users and for the society’s collection of more than 8,000 books, research files, county record indexes, family charts, oral histories and other reference materials.

Power in Pink

Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital (RGH) will celebrate the “Power of Pink” with a breast cancer awareness event from 5-7 p.m. October 17 at Irvington Baptist Church, 53 King Carter Drive, Irvington.

The event will include education, social networking, vendor resources, heavy hors d’oeuvres and door prizes. This event is free and open to the public. To register, call 435-8325.

Fall festival

The Northern Neck Farm Museum/Luther Welch Agricultural Center, 12705 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will hold a fall festival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. October 19.

The festival will feature exhibits, equipment, corn maze, hayrides, pumpkins, Master Gardeners community garden. Admission is $10, including corn maze; closed-toe shoes required.

Open Mic Night

Literacy Connect will sponsor Open Mic Night from 7-9 p.m. October 18 at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. The theme will be “Someone Who Made A Difference in My Life.”

Fall production

Rehearsals are underway for “On the Farce Day of Christmas,” the Lancaster Players fall production. Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. November 1-2, 8-9 and 15-16, and 3 p.m. on November 3 and 10 at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2024-25 On Stage series will open at 7:30 p.m. October 19 with Dancing Dream, an ABBA tribute band, at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

Seafood boil

The Northern Neck Farm Museum/Luther Welch Agricultural Center, 12705 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will hold a seafood boil beginning at 5 p.m. October 19.

Resource fair

The Northumberland County Department of Social Services will hold its annual Resources Family Fun Fair “Spooky Edition” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. October 26 at the Northumberland Family YMCA, 6348 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

This free event will offer a boxed lunch, a costume contest, video games, hay rides, pony rides, bounce houses and door prizes. Celebrate Halloween and learn about community resources.

Barbecue

The Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, will hold a Take-out Barbecue Dinner from 4-6 p.m. October 27. Tavern member Sid Mace, a certified North Carolina BBQ Master, will make pulled pork, barbecue sauce and “Jack Daniels” baked beans. The meal also comes with Tavern-made potato salad and coleslaw, a bun and brownies.

The fee is $25. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.RHHTFoundationinc.org, or The Tavern from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

Shuckin’

Tickets are on sale for the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society’s ninth annual Shuckin’ on the Lancaster Green Oyster Roast fundraiser on November 9, featuring steamed and raw oysters, Lancaster chicken stew, bean soup, hot dogs, adult beverages and music by Toby & Larry.

The fee is $65 if purchased by October 17, or $70. Raffle tickets are available for $5 for a 50/50 drawing with a prize of up to $1,000. Purchase tickets at LancasterVaHistory.org or 462-7280.
