Win a quilt

The American Legion Adams Post 86 Ladies Auxiliary is conducting a raffle of a hand-embroidered king/queen size quilt. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Tickets may be purchased from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, October 9 and 10 in front of Tri-Star Supermarket, 81 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock, or from any member. A drawing will be held November 18.

Chamber concert

Rappahannock Concert Association will present Trio Confero at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at the Performing Arts Theater, Northumberland County School Complex, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville. The SONNY String Quartet will open.

Fall Festival

The Kilmarnock Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. October 11 and 12 at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Shuttle service will be available from Chesapeake Commons.

The festival offers an interactive kids zone with bounce houses, face painting and temporary tattoos; petting zoo, stilt walkers; performances on the main stage with bands, dance troupes and acrobats; a vendor village; food trucks; and a “Beergarten.”

Lyrra concert

Abingdon Episcopal Church, 4645 George Washington Memorial Highway, White Marsh, Saturday, October 11, will host Lyrra, an all-women vocal ensemble from The Voces8 Foundation in the first concert in the 37th season of the Arts at Abingdon Concert Series.

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. A free-will offering will be accepted. A free wine/cheese reception will follow in the Parish Hall.

SAR-DAR luncheon

The Richard Henry Lee Chapter, SAR, and the Cobbs Hall Chapter, DAR, will hold a joint luncheon Tuesday, October 14, at the Bayne Center, Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. A social period will begin at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will follow at noon.

Woman’s club

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County will meet at noon, Tuesday, October 14, at the WCNC Clubhouse, 2928 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg. Refreshments will be served at noon and the meeting will follow at 12:30 p.m.

Heathsville postmaster Michelle Carroll will present “Ways to Protect Yourself from Postal Fraud” and address recent changes to the postal system. All are welcome.

Hunt Forum

John H. Hunt II Chesapeake History Forum will continue at 4 p.m. October 18 at Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. Kate Livie will present “Saltwater Showmen: The James Adams Floating Theater, 1914-1941.”

The event will feature an opening reception with fresh oysters, shrimp and handcrafted cocktails and a light supper will follow. Tickets are $100 per person or $175 per couple. Purchase tickets at ChristChurch1735.org or at the HCC&M office.

History trip

Lancaster Virginia Historical Society will sponsor a tour October 20 to the Virginia Museum of History & Culture and Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. Carpooling from Lancaster is encouraged.

The fee is $100 for members and $115 for others, and includes museum admission, a narrated trolly tour of the cemetery, lunch and gratuities. Registration by September 26 at 462-7280 or history@lancastervahistory.org.

Power of Pink

Bon Secours RGH will host Power of Pink, breast cancer awareness event, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. October 21 at White Stone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Drive, White Stone.

The free event will offer education, support, fellowship, food, door prizes, raffles and a special ceremony honoring breast cancer survivors. Registration is encouraged, call 435-8090 or 435-8325.

Floral Fantasies

The Kilmarnock Garden Club will host Floral Fantasies with Kathy Ward at 11 a.m. October 21 at Historic Christ Church in Weems. Ward will create Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s floral fantasies.

Genealogy class

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS)  Fall Genealogy Classes will continue from 1-3:30 p.m. October 23 at Lancster Communit Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. The topic will be Digging in the Dirt—All About Land Records.

The fee is $25 for LVHS members, $30 for others. Paid registration is required by 4 p.m. October 22. Register at lancastervahistory.org or 462-7280.

Christmas show reservations

Kilmarnock Museum will sponsor a bus trip to the Old Dominion Barn Dance Christmas Show December 13, featuring Ronnie McDowell. Bus will depart from Chesapeake Commons in Kilmarnock at 11:30 a.m. $140 fee covers roundtrip fare, show tickets, and snacks on the bus.

The bus will stop for dinner on the return trip at Nick’s Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords, buy-you-own. For tickets, call Mary Brent, 238-8738, or Carroll Lee Ashburn, 296-0930.

Adams Post 86

American Legion Adams Post 86 meets at 5 p.m. on third Tuesdays at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

Rotary meetings

The Northern Neck Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Those interested in the speaker topics or Rotary are welcome.

Mahjong Weekend

The Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington, will host Mahjong Weekend October 24-27 with guest instructor Dana Lange, who brings her engaging teaching style to players of all levels.
