Floral designs

Rappahannock Garden Club will meet at 12:45 p.m. today, October 12, at Grace Hall, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Sally Harrison, owner of Fairntosh Flowers, will demonstrate “Floral Design for Table and Mantel.” The program is free and open to the public.

Prevent suicide

Prevent Suicide Walk For A New Day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 14. The walk will begin at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. To register, visit chvc.online, or call 1-888-773-8550, or 642-5402.

A $5 donation per person will benefit suicide prevention awareness initiatives. Donations will be accepted the morning of the event.

Country breakfast

Lancaster Union Lodge #88 A.F. & A.M. will serve an all-you-can-eat country breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, October 14, at the Lodge, 48 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

The cost is $10. Ages 5 and younger, uniformed military and law enforcement eat free.

Dog show

The Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck will hold its 17th annual Dog Gone Dog Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 14, at the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington. The event is sponsored by Invisible Fence Brand.

There will be 13 competition events, $4 per event, per pet; baked goods, picnic foods, silent auction, pet boutique and vendors. Donations welcome.

Oktoberfest event

The Warsaw Rotary Club will present the fifth annual Oktoberfest from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 14, at the Warsaw Town Park, 171 Main Street, Warsaw. The fee is $10 in advance and $15 at the gate.

The HonkyTonk Heroes will play from 5 to 10 p.m., with a few breaks. There will be food vendors and beer.

Horticulturist

presentation

The Garden Club of the Northern Neck on Tuesday, October 17, will host nationally recognized horticulturist Holly Shimuzu, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock. Tickets are $45 each, which includes light refreshments and a wine ticket. Additional libations may be purchased.

Lunch and learn

Visiting Angels and Carousel Physical Therapy on Tuesday, October 17, will present “Know Your Limits,” a lunch and learn segment on being proactive to keep active and healthy. The program will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at Visiting Angels, 68 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Post meeting

American Legion Adams Post 86, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 17. All members and war era veterans are invited. Refreshments will be served. The Ladies Auxiliary will also meet.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2017-18 On Stage series will present Robin and Linda Williams on November 18 at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. Upcoming concerts will include John Brown Little Big Band, ‘Holiday in Swing’ Concert, December 16; MozART, March 9; and Sons of Serendip, April 14.

Paint Like the Masters

The RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, on October 20 will offer Paint Like the Masters—“Emma Allen’s Seasons.” The instructor will be Marilyn Sprouse.

This workshop, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., will utilize acrylic paints. Snacks will be provided and participants may bring their own libation. For fees and registration, visit the center, or call 436-9309.

Oyster roast

The Morattico Waterfront Museum, 6584 Morattico Road, Morattico, will hold its 10th annual Oyster Roast from 2:30 to 5 p.m. October 21. The menu will include roasted oysters and raw bar plates, hush puppies, clam chowder, ham biscuits and homemade desserts. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Serving will begin at 3 p.m.

All veterans and their families are invited to the annual OctoberFest Dinner at 5 p.m. October 21 at American Legion Adams Post 86, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock. Come and enjoy fellowship, make new friends and renew old friendships.

Low country boil

The Northern Neck Farm Museum, 12705 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will hold a low country boil at 5 p.m. October 21. The menu will include appetizers, a seafood boil with crabs and shrimp, dessert, beer and wine.
