Donations welcome
Donations of new and gently-used gifts are needed by Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern for the Golden Village Christmas event December 4 at the Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. Donations may be brought from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays or call 804-580-3377.
The Tavern offers a children’s shopping area. Children ages 4-12 shop without their parents, paying $1 per gift for family members. Tavern “elves” wrap and tag the presents so that everyone is truly surprised on Christmas morning.
Treats for Troops
The Northumberland Family YMCA and the Northumberland American Red Cross remind folks to donate leftover Halloween candy to the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces. Deliver unopened bags of candy to the YMCA, 6348 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, November 1 through 16.
The candy will be shared with service members serving in Virginia as well as overseas. “Our troops look forward to the treats every year,” said Shirley Grant, community volunteer leader.
Country breakfast
Lancaster Union Lodge #88 A.F. & A.M. will serve an all-you-can-eat country breakfast from 7-10 a.m. on second Saturdays, at the Lodge, 48 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. The fee is $10. Ages 8 and younger eat free.
The menu will include fluffy scrambled eggs (fried eggs on request), pancakes (blueberry and plain), biscuits, sausage gravy, sausage links, bacon, cheesy grits, home-fried potatoes, fried apples, warm syrup, fruit cocktail, coffee, tea, juice and milk. Orders to go available also.
Concerts By the Bay
Concerts By The Bay 2021-22 season will continue November 21 with Jim Curry’s Tribute to the Music of John Denver. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the Mathews High School Harry M. Ward Auditorium, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews.

Oysters & Oldies
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will hold Oysters & Oldies from 12:30-3:30 p.m. December 4 at Roanoke Farm, 6108 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville. Tickets are $35; ages 12 and younger are free.

Trick or Art
Allure Art Center, 419 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone, will host Trick or Art through Halloween, October 31. The gallery will be decorated and feature fall art items.
The gallery and grounds will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and from 5-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. After 7 p.m., the building windows will come alive. On October 31, Halloween night, the haunted trail also will be open for trick or treating.
Jazz concert
Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts will host The Hot Club of San Francisco at 7:30 p.m. November 13 at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.
