Holiday comedy

Love story

Star party

The Shiloh School Astronomy Club will host a star party at 7 p.m. Friday, November 15, at Shiloh School, Shiloh School Road, Kilmarnock.

The public is invited to observe the moon, Saturn and Jupiter, and star clusters and galaxies. Dress comfortably for cooler weather.

Bay concert

Concerts by the Bay will present Kate Voss and the Hot Sauce at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 17, at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. Admission is by subscription, or $30 at the door; students free.

Potluck dinner

Bluff Point Community League, 2595 Bluff Point Road, Kilmarnock, will hold a potluck dinner on Monday, November 18. Social time will begin at 6 p.m.; dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Bring a dish to share.

Computer consultant Chris Emry will talk about internet safety.

NPL board

The Northumberland Public Library board of trustees will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at NPL, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville. The meeting, open to the public, is a great opportunity for those who might be interested in joining the board or seeing what NPL is all about.

Piano quartet

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present The Garth Newel Piano Quartet at 7:30 p.m. November 23 at the Northumberland County School Performing Arts Theater, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville.

Illuminate Irvington

The third annual Illuminate Irvington, tree lighting will be held at 6:15 p.m. December 5 at Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington. Activities on the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington, will immediately follow.

Activities will include a visit by Santa and Toys for Tots, children’s raffles, games and face painting. Free hot dogs and cider will be available. The event will conclude with a decorated golf cart parade down King Carter Drive.

Festival of Trees

The 27th annual Festival of Trees will be held at the Northern Neck Family YMCA at 6 p.m. December 7. Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased at https://www.ymcavp.org/fot or 435-0223.

Oysters & Oldies

The St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 17th annual Oysters & Oldies Christmas oyster roast will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. December 7 at Roanoke Farm, 6108 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Tickets are $45 and available at ststephensheathsville.org/oyster-roast or the St. Stephen’s Thrift Shop, 6852 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Village Christmas

The Village of Weems will have its annual Christmas parade at 4:30 p.m. December 7 starting at the end of Weems Road.

The parade will be followed by a come as you are Nativity pageant at Campbell Memorial Church and a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Decorate Irvington

On December 15, judging will take place to choose the winners of the annual outdoor Christmas decorations contest for Irvington businesses and residences. Winners will be announced December 19.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Christmas show

The Kilmarnock Museum recently announced a bus trip to the Old Dominion Barn Dance Christmas Show on December 14 to see Wilson Fairchild and Hunter Owens. A chartered coach will depart from Chesapeake Commons in Kilmarnock at 11:30 a.m. and return by 10 p.m. A nonrefundable $135 fee includes roundtrip fare, seats to the show and snacks on the bus.

The bus will stop for dinner on the return trip at Nick’s Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords. Dinner is not included in the fee. To reserve a seat, call Mary Brent, 238-8738, or Ashburn, 296-0930. Cash or checks payable to Kilmarnock Museum is expected at time of booking.

Rotary

The Rotary Club of the Northern Neck meets for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. However, the November 27 meeting has been cancelled.

Senior gathering

Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington, hosts a senior gathering from noon-1:30 p.m. on second Tuesdays. Share lunch, bingo and fellowship.
