Wreath pick up

Northern Neck CASA recently issued a reminder that pre-ordered wreaths may be picked up at Chesapeake Commons Shopping Center in Kilmarnock from 4-6 p.m. December 5 and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. December 6 and 7.

Wreaths also may be picked up at the Primis Bank parking lot in Burgess from 10 a.m.-noon December 7; and in front of The Saddlery in Warsaw from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. December 7.

Christmas Joy

The Chesapeake Chorale will present its 27th concert season of “Christmas Joy” December 6-8. Concerts are slated at 8 p.m. Friday at Northumberland High School, 201 Academic Lane, Claraville; 8 p.m. Saturday at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock; and 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Clare Walker Middle School, 6814 General Puller Highway, Locust Hill.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at Chesapeake Bank and Pearl Boutique in Kilmarnock, Country Cottage in White Stone, from chorale members and at the door at each concert venue.

Wonderland

The White Stone Winter Wonderland, sponsored by the town council, will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, December 6, on the Village Green. A tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Santa’s arrival.

The event will include hot dogs and drinks, children’s crafts, hot chocolate, homemade cookies, soup and a goodie bag.

Children’s shopping

Golden Village Christmas will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, December 7, at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. This event offers gift shopping, decorative greenery, a bake sale, visits with Santa (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and caroling.

Children have their own shopping area. For $2 a gift, Tavern “elves” help kids ages 4-11 select and wrap gifts. Call 580-3377 to make an appointment for children or grandchildren to shop.

Oysters & Oldies

The St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 17th annual Oysters & Oldies Christmas oyster roast will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7, at Roanoke Farm, 6108 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Tickets are $45 and available at ststephensheathsville.org/oyster-roast or the St. Stephen’s Thrift Shop, 6852 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Shrimp and

oyster dinner

The Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 14th annual “all you can eat shrimp and oyster dinner” on February 1, 2025, at the Lively Firehouse, 5170 Mary Ball Road, Lively. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and may be purchased through January 20 at The Corner or Chesapeake Bank in Lively, Primis Bank in Burgess and Noblett Appliances in Kilmarnock. Tickets will be available at the firehouse from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. Tickets also may be purchased from any fireman.

Tree lighting

The evergreen in front of the Old Courthouse, 72 Monument Place, Heathsville, will be lit for the holiday season on Saturday, December 7. The tree lighting ceremony will start at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy music, caroling, holiday readings and refreshments.

Village Christmas

The Village of Weems will have its annual Christmas parade at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7, starting at the end of Weems Road.

The parade will be followed by a come as you are Nativity pageant at Campbell Memorial Church and a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Christmas Town

Palestine Lodge #100, Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock, will host Christmas Town at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 8. The event will feature photos with Santa and The Grinch, music, games, toys and refreshments.

History program

Artist and museum curator David Jett will present “A Tea Box and a Revolver” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 8, at the Northumberland County Historical Society (NCHS) at the Ball Memorial Library and Museum, 86 Back Street, Heathsville. Light refreshments will be available.

Fiber guild

The Five Rivers Fiber Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, December 9, at Wicomico Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 5191 Jessie duPont Memorial Highway, Wicomico Church.

The guild will hold its annual holiday fashion show and covered dish luncheon. Visitors and new members are welcome to bring a dish.

Caregiver support

Bay Aging will host a Caregiver Holiday Social and Dinner from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday, December 9, at Donna’s on Main, 37 North Main St., Kilmarnock.

Join for dinner, a caregiver social and support, as well as a white elephant gift exchange with a maximum gift amount of $25. Dinner is not provided.

Senior gathering

Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington, hosts a senior gathering from noon-1:30 p.m. on second Tuesdays. Share lunch, bingo and fellowship.

WCNC luncheon

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County will hold its annual holiday pot luck at noon Tuesday, December 10, at the WCNC Clubhouse, 2928 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg. Bring a dish to share. The club will  be awarding scholarships and contribute to local charities. All are welcome, including husbands and guests.

Holiday Tea

A Holiday Tea to benefit the Northern Neck Partners for Pets (NNPP) will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

Tickets are $30 each, and $15 for ages 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at Primis Bank, 6941 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, and When Ordinary Won’t Do, 76 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Angel Tree

The Rivah’s “Local Angel Tree Project” is underway. The public is urged to pick up an angel in need from The Rivah, 49 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. Each name on the Angel Tree will have a list of needed or desired items.

Items can then be delivered to The Rivah by December 18. Use gift bags and attach the angel from the tree onto the bag for ease of delivering. Commonly needed items include snacks, blankets, socks, gloves, hats, scarves, toiletries, washcloths, toys, soccer ball, basketball, clothing, shoes and coats.

Decorate Irvington

On December 15, judging will take place to choose the winners of the annual outdoor Christmas decorations contest for Irvington businesses and residences. Winners will be announced December 19.
