Museum barbecue

Morattico Waterfront Museum will host “Swine, Wine and Beer” at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the museum pavilion, 6584 Morattico Road, Morattico. Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. The event will offer pork and chicken barbecue, appetizers, sides, desserts, a cash bar, locally made craft beer and Deejay Brian Cracik.

Admission is $25 for adults, $10 for ages 6-12, and free for ages 5 and younger. To reserve tickets call 480-9015 or email [email protected]. Tickets will not be sold on the day of the event.

The Great Art Heist

The RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host The Great Art Heist exhibit June 4-29. The exhibit will feature art associated with The Great Art Heist gala at 4 p.m. June 29. Gala tickets are $100 for members and $125 for non-members. Ticket holders will receive a work of art.

A First Friday reception from 5-7 p.m. June 7 will showcase the exhibit. The public is invited to meet some of the exhibiting artists. The Great Art Heist tickets will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served.

Verville gala

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society on Friday, June 7, will host “An Evening at Verville” near Merry Point. The event will feature tours of the historic house, drinks, appetizers, a three-course dinner on the lawn and auctions.

Crab festival

The Irvington Crab Festival will be held August 10 at the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington. Grounds will open at 4 p.m., crabs will be served at 5 p.m. Beer and wine will be available for purchase; a silent auction and museum tours will be held.

Tickets are $45, or $10 for ages 12 and younger. Tickets will be available Saturday, June 1, at steamboateramuseum.org and after June 11 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays at the museum.

RFM concert

John Conolly and Rob van Sante with special guest Janie Meneely will present a concert at 7 p.m. June 15 at Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street, Reedville. Tickets are $10.

Music by the River

Upcoming Music by the River concerts at Belle Isle State Park will include Faron Hamblin on Saturday, June 8, and Billy Joe Trio on June 15.

Concerts will begin at 6 p.m. in the picnic area at the park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. A $5 parking fee is payable at the front gate. Picnics are encouraged.

Veterans benefit

Yankee Point Marina, home of Windows on the Water, 1303 Oak Hill Road, Lancaster, will host the sixth annual Veterans Benefit Concert for ‘Camp 4 Heroes’ from 5-10 p.m. June 22.

Music will be provided by Muddy Boots, Captain Woody aka Elvis, John T. Woodall, Just Us and All American Band. Guest speakers will include severely wounded veterans sharing their stories. The cover charge will be $10.

Spell it

Lancaster Community Library will host “For the Spell of It” at 2 p.m. June 23 at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. The spelling bee, for ages 17 and older, will help raise funds for the children and teen programs at the library. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place.

Teams of four adults can register at www.lancasterlibrary.org or pick up a registration form at the library. The minimum donation per team is $100. The spectator fee will be $10 or free for ages 11 and younger.

Historic home tour

The Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society will conduct a tour of Southern Sighs Inn, 35 Wares Bridge Road, Church View, from 1-5 p.m. June 30.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the house and grounds and to enjoy light refreshments. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at middlesexmuseum.com, or by mailing a check payable to Middlesex Museum to P.O. Box 121, Saluda, VA 23149. Tickets also may be purchased at Southern Sighs on tour day.

Lees and

Independence

Stratford Hall, 483 Great House Road, Stratford, will host a free Lees and Independence Family Fun Festival from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. July 4.

A range of family-friendly activities will be offered, plus food trucks, tours of the Great House and music.

Bluegrass festival

The 2019 Mount Airy Bluegrass Festival will be held June 28-29 at Mount Airy Farm, 361 Millpond Road, Warsaw. Carolina Blue and Josh Grigsby & County Line will be featured June 28.

Junior Sisk & Rambler’s Choice, Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys, and Rhonda Vincent & The Rage will be featured June 29. For times, fees and tickets, visit www.mountairy.farm or call 313-0815.

Beach party

On the Beach Dance Party will be held June 29 at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and Steve Owens & Summertime will take the stage at 6 p.m.

Greg Howell, The Shaggin’ DJ, will spin the best beach music before the concert. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at kilmarnockva.ticketleap.com, or the gate. Food vendors will be on site and adult beverages will be on sale.
