History lecture

Local history authors Lois Crane Williams and Ammon G. Dunton Jr. will present “Colonel James Gordon and Verville: A Colonial Lancaster Gentleman and his Home” at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society, 8346 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster.

RCA tickets

The Rappahannock Concert Association’s 2019-20 series will include October 12, pianist Michael Chertock; November 9, the Dallas-based Quebe Sisters; March 21, The Drifters; April 25, John Bullard and Friends; and May 16, Nashville Legacy. Concerts will be held Saturday nights at the Performing Arts Theater, Northumberland County School Complex, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville.

Crab festival

The Irvington Crab Festival will be held August 10 at the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington. Grounds will open at 4 p.m., crabs will be served at 5 p.m. Beer and wine will be available for purchase; a silent auction and museum tours will be held.

Tickets are $45, or $10 for ages 12 and younger. On July 23, adult tickets will increase to $50. Tickets may be purchased at steamboateramuseum.org, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays at the museum.

Music by the River

Upcoming Music by the River concerts at Belle Isle State Park will continue August 10 with the Michael Clark Band and August 17 with Southern Grace.

Concerts will begin at 6 p.m. in the picnic area at the park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. A $5 parking fee is payable at the front gate. Picnics are encouraged.

Edible plants

Stratford Hall, 483 Great Hall Road, Stratford, will offer Edible Plants of Stratford Hall from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. August 31. The instructor will be Hal Wiggins.

The program fee is $10 per person. The fee will be waived for Friends of Stratford members and children ages 6 and younger. Preregistration is required by August 28. To register, contact Jon Bachman at 493-1972 or [email protected].

Indoor yard sale

An indoor yard sale to benefit the Northumberland County Animal Shelter is held regularly at the Northumberland School Administration Building, 2172 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg.

Hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. second and fourth Saturdays.

Boots & BBQ

Tickets are on sale for the annual Northern Neck Land Conservancy’s annual Boots & BBQ celebration September 28 at Ditchley, 1571 Ditchley Road, Kilmarnock.

NAPS seeks citizenship nominations

The Northumberland Association for Progressive Stewardship (NAPS) seeks nominations for the 2019 Northumberland Distinguished Citizen Award and the Ambassador Award.

To nominate an individual, group, organization, or business that merits either of these awards, email the information to [email protected], or mail to NAPS DCA Nomination, PO Box 567, Heathsville, VA 22473. Include a brief synopsis on how the nominee fits the criteria, advancing the goals of NAPS, and include contact information. Submit nominations by Wednesday, July 31.
