Yard sale

Marine Corps League Detachment 1062 will hold a charity yard sale and 50/50 raffle from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, September 28, in the Banes Northern Neck Upholstery parking lot, 129 Northumberland Highway, Callao.

Sale items may include furniture, collectibles and art. Proceeds help local people and organizations. To donate goods (no clothes or old TVs) drop them off at the site by 8:30 a.m. on sale day.

Boots & BBQ

Tickets are on sale for the annual Northern Neck Land Conservancy’s annual Boots & BBQ celebration Saturday, September 28, at Ditchley, 1571 Ditchley Road, Kilmarnock.

The event will feature music, barbecue and fried oysters. Tickets are $50 per person. For tickets, call 462-0979.

Wren Masters

The Wren Masters, a classical quartet from Williamsburg, will perform “Jamestown 1619: Music from the New World and the Old” from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

Tickets are $35 and include libations at intermission. Tickets may be purchased at christchurch1735.ticketleap.com, at the HCC&M office or at the door.

Mug art

The public is urged to visit the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. October 5 to paint an RAL 70th anniversary commemorative mug. Marilyn Sprouse will facilitate this event.

Music on the Half Shell Stage

Upcoming Music on the Half Shell Stage concerts include October 6, The Original Rhondels. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Admission is $10. Tickets are available at https://kilmarnockva.ticketleap.com/. Children younger than age 5 are admitted free with a season pass holder. Admission is also payable at the gate.

CAPINNE

The Northern Neck Rotary Club will present the 29th annual CAPINNE fundraiser—the “Great Northern Neck Race,” November 2. The race, with a grand prize of $5,000, will start at noon at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

Each four-person team/vehicle must raise a minimum of $400 to participate. Teams will be given a set of clues and tasks to complete, with points for each completed task. To enter, complete the application form at www.nnrotary.org. Applications also will be available at Lancaster by the Bay Chamber, 16-A Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

NNO season

Tickets are on sale for the 2019-20 season of the Northern Neck Orchestra.

Season tickets for three concerts are $90. Tickets for individual performances are $36. Tickets can be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the door. Students are admitted free with an online reservation.

Musical comedy

The Lancaster Players will present “Motherhood, The Musical,” at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. Show dates are 8 p.m. November 1, 2, 9, 14, 15 and 16; and 3 p.m. November 3 and 10. The theater will open for a social hour prior to the curtain.

Proper pruning

Rappahannock Garden Club will host Master Gardener Debbie Burgess as she discusses the when and hows of pruning woody shrubs.

The public is invited to this free program at 1 p.m. October 10 at Grace Hall, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Conservancy celebration

The Historic Virginia Land Conservancy will hold its 2019 Conservancy Celebration from 2-4:30 p.m. October 6 at Chelsea Plantation in West Point. Tickets are $75. Purchase tickets at www.HistoricVirginiaLandConservancy.org or 757-565-0343.

The event will include music, plantation home tours, a silent auction, fish casting clinic, Brunswick stew and ham biscuits. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Must be 21 years or older.

Tidewater Trio

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present The Tidewater Trio at 7:30 p.m. October 12 at the Performing Arts Theater, Northumberland High School, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville. The pianist, oboist and bassoonist will present a varied program, from classical to patriotic music.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts On Stage concert series will continue November 23 with The Philadelphia String Quartet; December 21 with The Barefoot Movement; March 14 with Leahy; and April 18 with Face 2 Face.

All concerts are staged at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. Admission is by season subscription or $39. Call the box office, 438-5555.

Chorale rehearsals

Chesapeake Chorale rehearsals will continue at 7 p.m. Mondays through December 2 at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church, 89 East Church Street, Kilmarnock.

All who are interested in a season of fun, music and friendships are welcome. Christmas concerts will be presented December 6, 7 and 8.

Crab bisque

The Middlesex County Woman’s Club is accepting orders for crab bisque. The bisque is frozen and sold by the quart at $20. Orders will be filled from 10 a.m.-noon October 23 and October 26 at the Woman’s Club, 210 Virginia Street, Urbanna.
