Vera E. J. Waller

WEEMS—Vera Elizabeth Jenkins Waller of Weems died Wednesday, April 22, 2020. She was born March 1, 1938, in Weems, to the late John B. Jenkins and Virginia Fisher Jenkins Waddy.

She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Weems. She served as an usher, a member of the Culinary Arts Ministry and the homecoming committee.

Vera was educated in Lancaster County public schools and graduated from A.T. Wright High School. She furthered her education in home health care at Rappahannock Community College.

She was employed at Kellum Seafood and Abbott Seafood. After working full days, for many years she would leave her full-time position and shuck oysters during the night. She later worked for Tide’s Inn and kept the same evening employment shucking oysters.

For several years she used her home health training to provide private home care. She later worked at Willaby’s where she enjoyed baking and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her beloved Ernest Oliver Robbins; sons, Tudy and Bruce Waller; siblings, Bernard Jenkins, Ernestine Jenkins, Floyd Jenkins and Roxie Jenkins; and stepfather, Harold Waddy.

She is survived by sons, Johnny Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, Rev. Dr. Rodney Waller, and Ernest Robbins; brothers, Allen Jenkins of Plainfield, N.J., and Pureed Jenkins of Weems; sisters Marcella Tiggle of Weems and Sadie Moore of Fort Washington, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Tuesday, April 28, at Sharon Baptist Church, Weems.
