IRVINGTON—Violet May Lewis, 95, of Irvington, passed away on April 6, 2017.
Violet was a devoted military wife, a loving mother and sister, and a caring and thoughtful friend. From the ages of 60 to 90, she worked in the fitness profession which was the highlight of her later years.
Her greatest joy was in helping others. Whether it was as a fitness instructor, a church member, a neighbor, or a friend, Violet’s goal was to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
She is survived by two sons, David J. Lewis (daughter-in-law, Chyril) and Gordon Lewis; two daughters, Mary Ellen Lewis and Kathryn A. Smith; and her adopted daughter, Christine Ketner. She also is survived by her seven grandchildren: Arian, Leah, Kelty, Brandon, Collin, Anna and Liam; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 58 years, Lt. Col. David Lewis; sisters, Mary Greig and Ivy Skinner; brothers, Jack Skinner, Albert Skinner and twins, David and Donald Skinner.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Kilmarnock. Family received friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
