LANCASTER—The Virginia Marine Resource Commission last week unexpectedly dropped its case against local waterman Jonathan Somers and returned his equipment.
Somers was scheduled to appear before General District Court Judge John Martin on April 5. However, before anyone arrived for the 11 a.m. hearing, Commonwealth’s Attorney Jan Smith asked the court to dismiss charges of crossing a closed oystering sanctuary.
