There will be a Northern Neck Sports Wall of Fame first on Saturday, May 6, when a mother and daughter will be among the 2017 inductees, according to organizer Carroll Lee Ashburn.

Northumberland County’s Bonnie Swann and her daughter Brooke Swann Spivey will be inducted during the 2 p.m. ceremony at Dream Fields, 1385 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock. Also in this year’s class will be Northumberland County’s Frederick Ray Rogers Jr and Richmond County’s Donald A. Douglas.

Swann, who was a decorated high school basketball and softball player, coached volleyball at Northumberland High School for 12 years, advancing to the state tournament every year.

Her daughter is a 2005 graduate of NHS, where she excelled at volleyball and softball. Spivey went on to play softball at East Carolina University and holds several records for the Lady Pirates.

Rogers, an outstanding Chesapeake League baseball player, was the co-founder of the Huff-n-Puff girls softball team and served as a Virginia High School League umpire.

Douglas is being recognized for his skills on both the basketball court and baseball field. After playing both at Farnham High School, he went on to catch for the University of Richmond baseball team.
