Walter B. Carr

Walter B. Carr

ROCHESTER, NY—Walter B. Carr of Rochester, N.Y., left this world on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the age of 93.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Mary Beth Flynn; daughter, Elaine Zanow; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter was born in Toronto, Canada and lived a busy and full life. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and the U.S. Air Force for four years. Following his military service and becoming a U.S. citizen, he lived in Los Angeles, Calif., where through determination he was able to break into the insurance business with no prior experience. While in LA, his claim to fame was that Lawrence Welk “stole” his date for one dance at the Santa Monica Pier. Walter moved to Rochester to work as an auditor and get his bachelor’s at the Rochester Institute of Technology. It was there he met his wife, Dorothy, and the couple decided to move to her hometown of Weems.

Walter was a well-known and beloved member of the Weems community. He was an operations vice president at the Bank of Lancaster, participated in his church choir, frequented the golf course and was an active member of the Lions Club.

Walter loved traveling with Dorothy (in particular to Ft Myers Beach), golf, reading about history and visiting historical sites, listening to music, taking his grandchildren/children to get an ice cream cone treat and spending time on the water or in the sun.

Walter demonstrated what it was to truly live your life and not let the time pass you by.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Interment followed the service at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Weems.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 70 Faith Circle, Weems, VA 22576.
