TAPPAHANNOCK—Wayne Holland Nickens died May 7, 2023.
He was born December 30, 1949, in Kilmarnock to the late Asa and Frances Nickens.
He graduated from Brookvale High School in 1968. Upon graduating, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and The Vietnam Service Medal.
He held various positions before he began his career as a train conductor with Norfolk Southern Railroad, from which he retired in 2018.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Frances Nickens; a brother, Edwin Nickens; his wife, Willie Mae Nickens; and son, Holland Fisher.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Howard of Salem, Ala., and Keith Jones of Silver Springs, Md.; daughters, Tawanda Moore and Tosha Nickens, both of Clinton, Md.; sister, Connie Morris of Clinton; brother, Dean Nickens of Clinton; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and companion, Janice Carter and family of Tappahannock.
A funeral was held at 11 a.m. May 20 at Calvary Baptist Church, Kilmarnock.
